Just about five months after the first DLC called The Awakened King, Remnant 2 received its second expansion in the form of The Forgotten Kingdom. The latest DLC was released on April 23, 2023, across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The latest expansion content is also made available on Xbox Game Pass subscription service for free at launch. The Forgotten Kingdom brings in a lot of fresh content and changes, building up on the game as well as the first DLC.
Living Stone return in The Forgotten Kingdom
During a recent interview with Windows Central, the game’s Principal Designer, Ben Cureton, and Cindy To, the Principal Level Designer, spilled the beans on what the developer did differently with the latest expansion. One of the major changes Gunfire Games made is the change of colors making the environment more lively and vibrant. To said,
“We really wanted to explore a more vibrant color palette. It’s this beautiful, almost vial luminescence-style jungle.”
Meanwhile, To also revealed that the players will face new creatures in the expansion which they had only seen earlier. The designer said,
“For those who are very familiar with Yaesha lore, there were mentions of the living stone. So those creatures were just like a snippet that we showed off in the base game. We’re in a civilization where tons of living stone creatures have been lying dormant for many years. Clearly, your arrival has disturbed the presence of these dormant creatures.”
To was referring to the living stone creatures that players will encounter in Remnant 2 The Forgotten Kingdom DLC. They are called Lydusa’s living stones and are seen wandering in search of fresh blood around the ruins of an ancient civilization in Yaesha. Players are expected to uncover the secrets of the lost tribe and suppress the fury of the ancient stone spirit, Lydusa.
These living stone creatures can be found in five locations, namely, Yaesha, Undead Crypts, The Twisted Chantry, The Chimney, and The Lament.
Remnant 2: The Forgotten Kingdom‘s content will make the game fresh
The designers also revealed how the upcoming Forgotten Kingdom DLC has no shortage of content. Cureton revealed,
“There was a post recently about Diablo’s latest patch where they said that Diablo patch notes are 10,000 words. I’m like, ‘Hold my beer,’ because ours are like 7,000 already, and we don’t have anything in them. We’ve updated almost everything.”
Ben Cureton also highlighted how many things the developers have touched upon in the DLC while simultaneously going into great detail on their process just to decide what gets balanced.
Talking of the amount of content in The Forgotten Kingdom and Remnant 2 overall, he said,
“I would say it’s probably fair to assume that we’re not going to short you on content, ever. The balance thing is not necessarily new content, but it’s going to make the game feel fresh. If you start over, you’ll pick up items you already had and go, ‘wow, this has a new use.’ Things like hearts, necklaces, guns, and traits. We even reworked some traits because, you know, people memed on the Wayfayer trait. So we addressed that. This is a massive patch for progression as well.”
They revealed how they treated The Awakened King DLC as an experiment, taking notes and improving in the latest expansion.
