Zendaya has been a part of some very successful projects. So much so, that every film that she seems to star in is getting more and more attention. The most recent addition to this list has been Challengers, which has taken the internet by storm. While the film was getting a lot of attention for some odd reasons when the trailer came out, that seems to have flipped since then.
It has become one of the most critically acclaimed films in the actress’s filmography, having an impressive, 7.8 out of 10 rating on IMDb. It would seem that this wasn’t only the case for her, as the movie just broke quite an impressive record.
Zendaya’s Challenges Meets New Highs
Challengers have become quite the talk of the town. The film has gotten excellent reviews from all sides, with audiences praising its ability to balance its racy themes with the seriousness of the world of tennis. It manages to keep its audience’s attention throughout its runtime, and Zendaya’s performance has been especially praised by viewers.
Knowing this, it is not surprising that the movie is doing excellently well in theaters and ticket sales. It was reported by ABC News that the movie has managed to make $15 million in its opening weekend, which is quite impressive for a movie of its type. This is also impressive considering its budget was $55 million.
Now, according to The Numbers, the movie has made a total of $29 million internationally, even though it was released less than a week ago.
Director Sets A New Record For Himself
It would seem that an impressive box-office performance isn’t the only achievement this movie has managed to make so quickly. It was reported by Film Updates on X that Challengers set a new record for Luca Guadagnino. It has become the director’s highest-grossing film domestically, setting a new record for himself.
The record was previously held by his 2017 film, Call Me By Your Name, which starred Timothée Chalamet. The older film made $18,065,180 at the domestic box office, whereas the Zendaya movie managed to make $18,980,114 in its first five days. This is quite an odd coincidence, considering the actress and Chalamet are quite close friends.
Many fans have made quite a lot of comparisons about the same, reveling in the two movies and their success. At the same time, others are simply impressed by Guadagnino’s achievement.
