With The Flash finally pulling off the plugs on the DCEU to make room for James Gunn’s new DCU, rumors about the new universe’s first major project keep on hovering on the internet. Although James Gunn has debunked several rumors surrounding his new DCU, especially his upcoming project, Superman: Legacy, the director didn’t brush off the possibility of some of them being true.

And according to a recent rumor from a well-known industry scooper and YouTuber Grace Randolph, Superman: Legacy might go against a cynical and more brutal version of Justice League.

James Gunn allegedly making The Authority villains for Superman: Legacy

It’s well known that James Gunn loves building up on lesser-known characters and has previously succeeded in crafting the best MCU trilogy with a group of misfits. And it appears in the first major DCU project, we might witness the same but instead of being the heroes of the film, they might be the antagonists for Superman: Legacy. During a live stream, scooper Grace Randolph touched on the rumors surrounding Superman: Legacy and claimed The Authority might end up being the main villains in the film. She said,

“I did hear, by the way, a rumor that it is going to be Superman vs. The Authority right off the bat, which I hope is not true ’cause that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard… I think that to have a Superman story up against The Authority, which is a weird group that I don’t feel gels with Superman whatsoever, but it is very James Gunn though. So I really hope that is incorrect,”

Although it does seem something like James Gunn might do, there aren’t definitive sources to prove these claims. But considering the next major project after Superman: Legacy is The Authority and Gunn did explain they will use their diamond characters to introduce lesser-known characters, The Authority might end up being in Superman: Legacy.

He explained.

Considering Gunn’s Superman will be more in line with Christopher Reeve’s iteration, witnessing a dynamic between a traditional Superman going up against The Authority can end up being pretty interesting.
