The Mission: Impossible star Tom Cruise and Dawson’s Creek star Katie Holmes’ high-profile divorce snatched the limelight in 2011 as it seemingly came out of the left field. Cruise, too, claimed to have been blindsided by this at the time. However, later it was revealed that things might have not been going that well for some time prior to Holmes filing for separation.

Although none of them ever came out to confirm or deny any rumors directly, it has been assumed that the main reason was Tom Cruise’s Scientology ties. As a result, a divorce appeal was filed by Holmes with her getting sole custody of their, then 6-year-old daughter Suri Cruise. However, his daughter’s custody was not the only thing Cruise had to give up at the time.

Allegedly, according to the divorce settlement, the Top Gun star also needed to pay hefty child support including any medical or dental finances until she turns 18. As a result, even with Tom Cruise being completely estranged from his youngest child, he has been paying $33 thousand each month ever since.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ messy divorce

After being married for 5 years, Katie Holmes filed for divorce from Tom Cruise in 2011. As people did not seem to have seen it coming, the news took no time to become sensational overnight.

With nobody to confirm or deny anything, rumors started to spread like wildfire. Trying to put an end to that, the actors claimed the reason behind was nothing other than “irreconcilable differences”. However, questions remained as to just what those differences might be.

Later, though, sources close to Holmes claimed that the root of the cause behind their split was nothing other than Cruise’s deep ties to the Church of Scientology. Which, she allegedly wanted nothing to do with herself, but moreover, wanted to keep her daughter as far away as possible. Cruise, himself, later agreed that it was indeed “one of the reasons” behind the split.

With Ex-Scientologists claiming how smart Holmes was with her silent divorce suit, the rumors seemed confirmed. Holmes’ lawyer’s statement, “The case has been settled and the agreement has been signed,” and they are thrilled for Holmes and her family to embark on this new journey seemed to finalize things. At the time, though, the former couple commented,

“We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other’s commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other’s roles as parents,”

Tom Cruise has been completely cut off from his daughter’s life. The reason behind that might also be his Scientology devotion as they seem to think that ex-communicators are “enemies” and practicing members are made to cut ties with them no matter who they might be. However, even if Cruise has been estranged from his daughter, he allegedly has been paying child support to this date.

Tom Cruise’s million-dollar child support

According to sources, the divorce settlement not only gave Holmes the sole legal custody of their daughter but also required Cruise to pay a hefty amount of child support. Allegedly, pre-nuptials were already in place that barred Katie Holmes from any kind of alimony that touches Tom Cruise‘s $250 million fortune.

So, the only amount Cruise had to pay was for their child up until she turns 18, which is April 18th of next year. However, the $33 thousand per month child support has now accumulated to a whopping $3.4 million fortune with $363 thousand yet to be paid until next year.

As a result, although Cruise might not be directly involved in his child’s life, he sure has been taking care of her financially. It should also be mentioned that Suri Cruise herself, has turned out to be quite the overachiever. Because even being just a 17-year-old she has managed to make half a million fortune for herself with her social media influencer career.

As she has always been praised for her fashion sense, going as far back as stunning the world with her shoe line collection when she was just 5, it is no surprise that brands flocked to her for advertisements. Her parents’ fame surely took it to another level. Continuing on that path, she is allegedly all set to pursue fashion in college, for which she has already started applying.

And although her father might be absent from helping her in any way, she seems to be getting all the help she needs from her style-savvy mother. There are also reports suggesting, that Cruise might fund her college finances as well, although they are yet to be confirmed.

The 17-year-old is expected to start her Hollywood journey after finishing her studying and ballet training. It will be interesting to see, if that really comes true in the coming years, though, and if her potential Hollywood career brings about a potential father-daughter reunion finally.
