In an interview with The Times of London, filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie recalled a story where Tom Cruise told him about the “weirdest story” he had heard about him. The actor stated that rumors were flying around that Cruise’s co-stars “were not allowed to look me in the eye.” Well, that’s one of the strangest rumors we have heard about the actor!

Coming to his defense, Simon Pegg, who plays Benji Dunn in the Mission: Impossible franchise stated,

“I’ve been able to hack my way through all the bizarre mythology that surrounds him. On one side he’s Tom Cruise — this enigmatic film star everyone wants to know about. And on the other he’s just a guy. I like being normal with him.”

Cruise has always been on his A-game when it comes to interacting with his fans or going out of the way for his co-stars. Therefore, him demanding to not be looked in the eyes does not sound right, does it? Well, at the end of the day, this is simply a rumor and we are sure Cruise has heard many, many more.

Talking to E! Online, Cruise’s long-time collaborator talked about how there will never be another movie star like him and recalled how he made Pegg feel so welcome on the first day they met.

“He leads from the top down. And he’s kind of inspiring to be around. There’s no one else like him, he’s the last movie star of the old kind. When I first met him, it was my first time to Hollywood. He came to set the first day we met. He immediately made me feel very welcome, very at home, was incredibly generous.”

Pegg and Cruise have been friends for almost two decades now and the former feels extremely lucky to have the latter in his circle.

“Over the 17 years that we’ve been friends, I feel lucky to get to see a part of him that everyone else wants to see, which is just the guy. And he is just a guy. He’s a guy who feels the obligation to the audience to risk his life for them to kind of entertain them.”

Pegg couldn’t be more on-point with the last sentence. After all, how many times have we seen Cruise go out of his way to perform dangerous, life-threatening stunts just so he can be true to his fans? Honestly, we have lost count. He sure is one of a kind!
