The Kate Winslet Oscar-nominated $34 million movie was no other than the 2015 Steve Jobs biopic. While the movie did not fare well when it came to commercial success and figures, it was a critically acclaimed movie. Even though the lead Michael Fassbender looked nothing like the Apple co-founder, his exceptional performance earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.

Back in the early 2010s, several Sony emails were leaked which revealed that Tom Cruise was the first choice for the role of Steve Jobs (via CNN). However, that never worked out as eventually the X-Men star was cast instead.

But the details of Cruise being approached for the role weren’t the only details revealed by those leaked mail. Turns out several other actors were approached and an equal number of actors approached the company targeting the role.

Among these actors were the names of industry A-listers like Tobey Maguire and Matthew McConaughey who wanted to play the role of Jobs. However, just like many other actors, they were passed on and missed out on the chance to star in the acclaimed biopic (via ARS Technica).

While Fassbender was no doubt amazing in his role, it is worth noting that it would have been great to see these amazing actors as Jobs and their take on the role.

Kate Winslet bagged an Oscar nomination for her role as Jenna Hoffman despite not looking anything like her. Which makes one think of how she even managed to get the role in the first place. She even remarked in an interview with Daily Mail,

“I couldn’t get hold of a script. For some reason, they had mental blocks and couldn’t get beyond my blonde hair and b*obs and see me in the part. I look nothing like Joanna. She has dark hair and glasses. We’re very different.”

And so she sent her wonderful husband off to buy some dark-haired wigs and got to work,

“I put on the wigs, had a bit of make-up done and shot selfies that I pinged over to the producer Scott Rudin. I thought: ‘That’s probably blown it!'”

And just like that the actress had the part and script all ready.

Steve Jobs can be rented on Amazon Prime.
