When fans talk about Sony Pictures properties based on Marvel Comics, they often don’t get past Spider-Man. Peter Parker’s adventures have been a big part of Sony’s box office success ever since the turn of the century. Even in the MCU, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has generated record-breaking figures at the box office and fans can’t wait for more updates on the fourth installment of the movie, which is in the early stage of production.
However, Holland’s movie isn’t the only Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSU) project being developed. The studio has also been working on Tom Hardy-led Venom 3. But a recent update on its release has supposedly taken all the air out of the balloon.
Fans React to Heartbreaking Update on Tom Hardy’s Venom 3
Tom Hardy, who is considered one of the most versatile actors of his generation, showed his star power by leading Sony’s Spider-Man Universe’s Venom in 2018. The movie follows Eddie Brock, a journalist, who gets merged with a symbiotic alien with lethal abilities during his investigation of human trials.
Venom turned out to be a blockbuster, grossing $856.1 million at the box office globally. The sequel, titled Venom: Let There Be Carnage, was also a financial success with a collection of $506.9 million.
As such, when it was confirmed that fan-favorite Hardy would reprise his role in the third stand-alone Venom movie, fans were naturally excited. However, Sony Pictures’ decision to push back the movie’s release from the summer of 2024 to November 8, 2024, has left many disappointed. Interestingly, the announcement came the same day that SAG-AFTRA confirmed it has agreed on a tentative deal with Hollywood studios to end a months-long strike.
Out of all the super hero movies that are coming, the most I am excited about are Venom 3 and Superman legacy.
I have literally 0 excitement for Marvel

Not that excited for the third one anyway, however if they decide to have a faceoff with Andrew Garfield’s SpiderMan then we can talk

bruh why the delay tho I thought the strike had ended
— Dylan (@dtmukuna) November 9, 2023
What, they should just cancel it!

This is too late, was expecting it much earlier

One way for Venom to bring fans back on the hype train would be by announcing a cameo of one of Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters. Hardy’s appearance in a credits sequence in Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021 was very well received by viewers.
Industry Insider Gives Exciting Update on Venom and Spider-Man’s Face-off
The suggestion of a potential crossover – be it in Spider-Man 4, Venom 3, or a completely new project – was also floated by industry insider, MyTimeToShineHello late in October.
During a discussion about who brought forward the better version of Venom between Spider-Man 2 (game) and SSU, MyTimeToShineHello teased their followers by suggesting fans might see Venom take on Web-Head sooner than they think.
The movies did it better. They didn’t even touch on the split personality stuff in the game. Movie Venom is also so much fun I can’t wait to see him and Tom Holland’s Spidey fight (sooner than you think) https://t.co/THWf9F0gOJ

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we are yet to see Venom clash with Spider-Man. Speaking to Empire (via Digital Spy), the movie’s co-writer Chris McKenna revealed that Spider-Man: No Way Home nearly featured more of Venom but Marvel ultimately decided to hold the exciting cross-over, leaving the door open for future possibilities.
