Although Loki had already become one of the favorite characters of fans from the MCU over the years, Tom Hiddleston’s epic performance in the perfectly set storyline of the Loki series further added to fans’ love for him. But considering how season 2 of the series ended with the iconic anti-hero sacrificing himself to hold the multiverse together, fans were afraid that it might have been the last time that they saw their favorite character on the big screen.

Following the end of Loki season 2, Tom Hiddleston appeared in numerous interviews where he was asked about his character’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During one such interview with EW, he was asked if he was bidding farewell to his character for good. To this, he said:

“It’s hard to say,” Hiddleston admitted. “I’ve made the mistake in the past of tying things up with a bow and saying goodbye and thinking it’s all over. And then, the phone rings a year later, going, ‘Hey Tom, what are you doing in a couple of months?’ So, I’m keeping an open heart and an open mind. But it does feel that there is a poetic redemption to where we are, and I felt very honored to perform that.”

Not only this but the legendary anti-hero portrayer further stated how he feels that his character has come to a ‘full circle’ with the end of Loki season 2.

“I feel very proud of where we’ve landed in the end,” he continued. “Where we are right now is all I know, and it felt really meaningful to come full circle.”

Considering his response and his sharing of what he is aware of, it seems that this might be the end for Loki after all. However, at the same time, Tom Hiddleston‘s comment on how the MCU has been calling him back at one point or another to resurrect him even after his various goodbyes makes it seem that his character just might return as a surprise to the fans.

As of now, since even Jonathan Majors‘ future in the MCU as Kang the Conqueror hangs with much uncertainty, to say for certain that Hiddleston will indeed return in Avengers: Secret Wars to fight Majors’ Kang would like shooting a blind arrow in the dark.

Loki’s Final Line In Season 2 Finale Was A Callback To Thor?

During a recent appearance on an episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, while echoing similar notions and stories, Tom Hiddleston also talked about how his last line in the season 2 finale of Loki meant a lot more than it seemed.

“I know what I want. I know what kind of god I need to be. For you. For all of us.”

This line also helped resonate with Loki’s selfishly started story coming to a full circle with his great glorious sacrifice. As Hiddleston explained:

“It’s the line that Loki says to Odin at the end of ‘Thor’. It’s a desperate plea for approval and validation. It’s a cry for help from a son who feels he doesn’t belong, and it doesn’t work, and it’s heartbreaking. This time, it’s— this Loki has lived through that moment and understands something much deeper, and it just felt like a kind of, ‘I actually now understand. Now I understand what I have to do. It’s not about me, it’s about you.’”

While season 2 of the Disney+ series has been a significant milestone in Tom Hiddleston’s iconic horned anti-hero’s life, Loki still really needs to return for two major reasons: 1. To have that magnificent fight with Kang the Conqueror, and 2. To meet his evolved half-brother Thor after having been so greatly evolved and developed himself.

Guess fans will just have to wait and see how everything turns out for their favorite character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the end.
