Not everyone shares that ideology though as director Judd Apatow does not seem to personally like Tom Cruise much. During his monologue at the Director’s Guild of America, Apatow made fun of Tom Cruise’s height along with his past incidents with the Church of Scientology.

American comedian Judd Apatow, known for directing several movies like The Bubble and The 40-Year-Old Virgin left no stone unturned as he insulted Tom Cruise. During the monologue at the Director’s Guild of America (DGA), the director talked about Tom Cruise’s height, his old age, and his association with the Church of Scientology.

“The visual effects in [Top Gun:] Maverick were so top-notch I couldn’t even see the stack of phone books Tom Cruise sat on to reach the flight controls.” started saying Judd Apatow. “That’s why he’s always jumping out of tall buildings because you can’t tell how short he is from a 100-story building. That’s why when he’s standing on a wing of an airplane he’s always alone, he doesn’t want anyone there next to him for scale,”

Apatow further continued that Tom Cruise was not fine and that something is wrong with him for jumping off a 100-foot cliff for a shot where CGI could have been used.

“What a lunatic.’ Now he drives a motorcycle off a cliff and then BASE jumps and we’re all like, ‘Tom’s fine’. Tom is not fine, something is wrong right now. Someone needs to explain something to him called CGI — you don’t need to do the stunts, they look exactly the same when you do them on the green screen. You’re 60, calm down.”

This wasn’t the end for the American comedian however as Judd Apatow referenced Cruise’s association with the Church of Scientology while openly mocking religion in his monologue.

In his continued monologue, Apatow mentioned an incident regarding Tom Cruise wherein the actor had stated that antidepressants are not a thing of science. The 30 for 30 director also mocked the Church of Scientology during the process.

“Every time he does one of these new stunts it does feel like an ad for Scientology, it really does. I mean, is that in Dianetics because there’s nothing about jumping off a cliff in the Torah? The only thing he seems to be afraid of is co-parenting and antidepressants. Do you think if Tom Cruise took antidepressants he’d be like, ‘I’m not jumping off of a fucking motorcycle on a cliff? Why do I even work, I’m rich.’”

The Director’s Guild of America took place on the 18th of February wherein Judd Apatow acted as the host for the event. Tom Cruise is yet to respond to these insults which made waves around the Internet and led to a heated debate among the fans.
