The internet was ablaze with photos of Seagal and Putin, in which the 71-year-old actor is congratulated by the president. In 2018, Seagal and Putin met each other and since then they have had a great relationship. The Marked For Death actor has declared that he is a million percent Russian and has good connections with Putin’s government.

Steven Seagal received the Order of Friendship Award from Vladimir Putin in February

Steven Seagal was again making waves on the internet after he received yet another recognition from Russian President Vladimir Putin. The 71-year-old actor has been awarded the Order of Friendship award by the Russian president for his great humanitarian work. Seagal has always mentioned clearly that he supports the Russian government as he is also a Russian citizen. 

The Russian government’s internet portal revealed that the Hard to Kill actor will be honored with the Order of Friendship award this year. This award is granted to people that the Russian government believes have helped them improve their foreign relations. Netizens have come up with mixed opinions on Seagal receiving this honor. The Above the Law actor has been very vocal about his support towards the Russian government. Last year on his birthday, there was a special birthday dinner organized in Moscow.

Vladimir Putin announced Steven Seagal as the special envoy to the United States of America

In 2018, when Russia needed a representative to build good relations with the United of America, they couldn’t think of anyone else but Seagal. Seagal was appointed as the Special Envoy to America. The Russian government announced this big news on their Facebook page and wrote that Seagal’s mission will include promoting, “relations between Russia and the United States in the humanitarian field, including cooperation in culture, arts, public and youth exchanges.”

Reportedly, this was an unpaid position and Seagal was more than happy to accept it from the Russian government. The Out for Justice actor stated in his Twitter statement,

“Deeply humbled and honored. I hope we can strive for peace, harmony, and positive results in the world. I take this honor very seriously.”

Seagal stated that he is grateful to the Russian government for the opportunity and that he has worked tirelessly for it. The 71-year-old actor stated in an interview,

“I’ve always had a very strong desire to do all I can to help improve Russian-American relations. I have worked tirelessly in this direction for many years unofficially and I am now very grateful for the opportunity to do the same thing officially.”

In November 2016, the Exit Wounds actor received his Russian citizenship. Putin personally presented Seagal with his Russian passport and also stated that he admires the actor for his work.
