Fans are probably not aware of the struggles Modern Family star Sarah Hyland is facing amid allegations of buccal fat removal. While many photos of her that resurfaced online seem to show a botched facial reconstruction, and some would claim extreme weight loss, the actress points her finger to an illness.
In 2018, Hyland opened up about her battle against kidney dysplasia. She had received a kidney transplant twice, but her body was constantly rejecting it. The actress even admitted she contemplated s**cide.
Sarah Hyland Claps Back At Haters Who Accused Her Of Going Under The Knife
On her Instagram page, actress Sarah Hyland unveiled the truth about the changes in her face through a selfie. She wrote via Women’s Health:
“Sometimes a selfie is more than just a good angle or feelin cute. This time for #NationalSelfieDay, I’ve decided to share my truth. As painful as it is. So here is my face that was torn from work against my will. But I’m very grateful it was. Health should always come first.”
The Geek Charming star also penned a long post on Twitter slamming critics who accused her of plastic surgery. She did not reveal any significant details about her illness, but she confessed not feeling great for the entire year.
“I haven’t had the greatest year. Maybe one day I’ll talk about it, but for now, I’d like my privacy. I will say that this year has brought a lot of change and with that, physical changes. I don’t mind when you say that I look pregnant. Or fat. Because I know that my face is swollen from medication that is saving my life.”
In her 2012 conversation with Seventeen, she revealed receiving a kidney from her father. In her later interviews, the actress said it failed, and she needed another one.
“You know that family is going to be there for you no matter what. My dad gave me a freakin’ kidney! But it’s also the families that you create outside of your family. And you really find out what kind of people you’re friends with. It was just amazing, and it really opened my eyes to see who’s there for me and who’s not.”
Hyland juggled work on Modern Family while dealing with her illness. The show ran for eleven seasons from 2009 to 2020.
Sarah Hyland Admits To Having S**cidal Thoughts
In a tearful interview with Self Magazine, Sarah Hyland confessed she thought of taking her own life because of guilt. After her first kidney transplant failed, she could no longer become a burden to another family member.
“I was very depressed. When a family member gives you a second chance at life, and it fails, it almost feels like it’s your fault. It’s not. But it does. For a long time, I was contemplating s**cide, because I didn’t want to fail my little brother like I failed my dad. I had gone through [my whole life] of always being a burden, of always having to be looked after, having to be cared for.”
The actress remains positive amid her situation and does not care what people think of her appearance, much more when it comes to the allegations of facial surgery.
