A massive outage took Twitter down and rendered the social media site inaccessible to more than ten thousand users. Twitter experienced the outage before midnight GMT (11am Thursday AEDT, 7pm Wednesday EST).
The system failure affected the website more than the mobile application. NetBlocks, a London-based website that monitors the Internet, reported that the widespread outage affected Twitter’s mobile app and its notification features.

Twitter Site Experienced Massive System Failure
Despite the application’s sudden crash, many Twitter users were still able to access the site. The unfortunate ones received error messages such as, “Something went wrong, but don’t fret – it’s not your fault.” Elon Musk, who bought Twitter for $44B in October, also confirmed in a tweet that his account was unaffected.
The cause of the social media app’s failure is not yet clear. Many users report that they have been immediately logged out from the app, while others complain they could not see tweet replies. Other features of the Twitter app are accessible to some users.
Isik Mater, NetBlocks research director, said in a report via The New York Times:
“The problems with Twitter exhibit in multiple countries and are widespread. The platform API is affected, which serves the mobile app as well as many aspects of the desktop site.”
Many believed that this sudden failure in the social media app’s system is due to Musk’s rash decision to lay off about 7,500 employees. This was only in his first week as the CEO. He fired more employees and contractors in the second week. These employees are part of the teams that work in human rights, communications, curation, accessibility, and machine learning ethics.
This is not the first time that Twitter experienced a mass outage. In July, the blue bird app had its longest down system in years. Users are blaming Musk’s incompetent management of the company, to which the business tycoon responded that he will only step down if they find a more suitable and capable replacement.

Users Blame Elon Musk For Global Twitter Outage
Users who are able to use the mobile app reacted to the outage, and all fingers point to Elon Musk. The incident is seen as a consequence of the business magnate’s controversial dismissal of the company’s employees. Check out their tweets below:

Musk plans to cut Twitter’s expenses by eliminating several of its workers and contractors, reducing the company’s real estate impression. Now, thousands of users are suffering from inconvenience due to the app’s system failure.
