As the world eagerly awaits the release of Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel that promises to take us back to the harrowing origins of the Locust War, a tantalizing question has emerged: could this classic Xbox exclusive find its way to the PlayStation 5?
While the idea of a Gears of War PS5 release might seem like heresy to some, recent comments from Xbox head Phil Spencer suggest that the once-unthinkable could become a reality. And if it does, there are two compelling reasons why E-Day could be an even better experience on Sony’s console.
Sony’s DualSense in Microsoft’s Gears of War: E-Day
When a Gears fan recently discovered that Gears of War: E-Day is coming to Steam, they couldn’t contain their excitement:

While most commenters were quick to dismiss OP’s enthusiasm and point out that this shouldn’t come as a surprise, given that Gears 5 is already available on Steam, one user dared to dream of a PlayStation release:

While these comments have naturally been met with downvotes from die-hard Xbox fans, the point being made is a valid one. The PS5’s DualSense controller, with its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers (which aren’t just marketing gimmicks, mind you), has the potential to elevate the Gears of War experience to new heights.
Imagine feeling the visceral rumble of your Lancer’s chainsaw as it tears through Locust flesh, or the resistance of the Gnasher’s trigger as you line up that perfect close-range shot. These are the kinds of immersive details that could make E-Day on PS5 a truly unforgettable experience.
A New Era for Gears of War?

Of course, the idea of a Gears of War PS5 release is still purely speculative at this point. Microsoft has not officially confirmed any plans to bring the series to PlayStation, and Xbox fans are understandably protective of one of their flagship franchises.
However, with Microsoft Gaming’s head honcho, Phil Spencer, hinting at a more open approach to exclusivity, it’s not outside the realm of possibility. After all, we’ve already seen the tech giant bring a handful of its first-party titles, such as Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush, to rival platforms.
But the prospect of a Gears PS5 release is an exciting one, not just for the DualSense controller’s immersive features, but because it would open up this beloved franchise to a whole new audience. PlayStation fans who have never had the chance to chainsaw a Locust or strap on a COG helmet would finally get to experience what makes Gears of War so special.
Now, before you get your pitchforks out: we’re not saying that Gears of War: E-Day would be a bad experience on Xbox Series X/S. Far from it, The Coalition has a proven track record of pushing Microsoft’s hardware to its limits, and there’s no doubt that E-Day will be a showcase for the console’s capabilities.
