But that is unlikely going to be the case in Dever’s next project, as the Golden Globes nominee is reportedly all set to portray a very divisive character in The Last of Us Season 2 who is viewed as fan favorite Bella Ramsey’s rival.
Kaitlyn Dever to Potentially Join Pedro Pascal’s The Last of Us
The Last of Us became an instant hit following its premiere, compelling HBO to renew the Naughty Dog’s video game-based series for another season.
The zombie television drama starring Pedro Pascal as Joel Miller – who after witnessing the death of his young daughter finds himself guardian to Bella Ramsey’s Ellie in a post-apocalyptic world – attracted an audience of more than 8 million for the series finale, titled Look for the Light (via Variety).
Fans have been waiting since the end of Episode 9 for an update of Season 2, which is scheduled to premiere in 2025. However, the WGA strike, which has been concluded now, put plans for a second season on hold for a while. But before the deadline, co-showrunner Craig Mazin managed to submit one script for Season 2, as well as material for key personnel so they could start scouting, as per LA Times.
Now it seems his scouting for Season 2 has reached a crucial juncture, with The InSneider reporting that Kaitlyn Dever is in talks to play Abby Anderson.
This is an interesting development considering that Dever was once in the running to portray Ellie, before eventually losing the part to the Game of Thrones talent. Now, she’s positioned to portray Ellie’s rival.

Abby succeeds in her mission, killing Pascal’s character, much to the disappointment of many gamers. This also infuriates Ellie, who swears revenge after Joel’s death. However, Abby’s tragic backstory and her path toward redemption slowly change the opinion of many fans of the popular video game.
Considering Pascal’s popularity, it will be interesting how the decision-makers of the television series approach Season 2 with Dever and Ramsey in a face-off.
