The relationship was moving through a rocky phase and fans foresaw this move when Affleck moved out of their shared mansion a few months ago.
However, the Argo star reportedly let the On the Floor singer have some space before she could file for divorce. Sources shared that he was trying to be respectful to Lopez after he took the decision to leave the relationship. Interestingly, Lopez reportedly cited their official separation date as April 26, seemingly confirming all earlier rumors.

According to documents obtained by BBC, Jennifer Lopez has filed a petition to dissolve their marriage. The move comes after months of speculation of a rocky relationship. Earlier, PEOPLE reported that the couple had started living separately after Affleck moved out of their shared mansion in Beverly Hills.
It was also reported that the Batman v. Superman actor’s decision to move out completely blindsided Jennifer Lopez, who was on vacation at the time. Later, sources told Heat magazine that The Mother actress was furious that Affleck had single-handedly taken the decision that impacted both of them.
However, another source shared that Ben Affleck wanted to be respectful to Lopez since “he was the one who left”. According to OK! Magazine, the source claimed that Affleck wanted to give her space and let her file the divorce in her own time. He even vowed to continue wearing his ring until Lopez initiated the divorce proceedings. The source told OK! Magazine:
Ben is being as respectful of J.Lo as he can right now since he was the one that left. But he’s moving forward with his life. Ben’s vowed to let her file for divorce in her own time. Until that happens, he’ll continue to wear his ring.
While Lopez was busy celebrating her birthday on July 24, Affleck was finalizing his deal on a $20 million mansion. According to Page Six, Affleck’s mansion is situated in Pacific Palisades, California. Reports also suggested that he moved closer to his ex-wife Jennifer Garner‘s home so that he could focus on being a father to their kids.
