Since the inception of Sony’s Spider-Man universe, which kicked off with the success of Venom, there have been a total of three movies, with Morbius being the last one. And it has been mostly mishaps on Sony’s part in their attempts to build a cohesive cinematic universe revolving around Spider-Man villains, as it’s evident the universe is struggling from a lack of a central figure.

However. Sony’s upcoming release can seemingly combat that issue by introducing this universe its very own Spider-Man, which could bring fan-favorite Andrew Garfield back as Peter Parker.

Madame Web Could Bring Back Andrew Garfield as the Wall Crawler

With a month away from its release, Dakota Johnson‘s forthcoming movie Madame Web will shape the future of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, and in doing so, it could make way for the return of Andrew Garfield. Considering rumors surrounding the plot of the movie hints that Madame Web will follow The Terminator 2 Story, it’s possible the young kid, in this case, could very much be Garfield’s Parker.

Although making Peter the equivalent of John Connor kind of hinders the point of Peter Parker as a character, it could be a great vehicle to introduce Spider-Man in this universe. Furthermore, with Venom 3 set to release later this year, the threequel too can bring in  Garfield’s Spider-Man in some capacity, thus teasing a deserved follow-up to TASM 2, which never saw the light of day. But as of now, it’s just wishful thinking on fans’ part, as nothing can be said for certain when it comes to Sony’s live-action department, which, unlike their animated flicks, has been a hit-or-miss.

Andrew Garfield Never Expected to Don the Suit Again

After 7 years since last donning the suit back in TASM 2, the Tick, Tick… Boom! Star finally got to become Peter Parker one more time in No Way Home, which unsurprisingly crushed the box office. Garfield, who explained that he never thought he’d get to play Parker again but was happy being a fan of the character, said the offer of starring with the other two webheads was undeniable. He told Variety :

“I wasn’t expecting to ever have a conversation again about potentially playing Peter Parker. I felt very excited to just to be a fan again. But I got this call from Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige and Jon Watts with this idea. It was immediately undeniable. It sounded incredibly fun, incredibly spiritual — trippy and thematically interesting. On a base level, as a Spider-Man fan, just the idea of seeing three Spider-Men in the same frame was enough.”

The upcoming future will tell whether Sony will eventually give in to fans’ demand and bring him back for a potential The Amazing Spider-Man 3 or will move in some other route.
