Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 cannot seem to shake off the chaos surrounding its production. Sony and Marvel would love to bring back the web-slinger for a fourth film, as it was Spider-Man: No Way Home that gave their respective last billion-dollar film. However, the film hasn’t locked a director yet, with Jon Watts stepping away from the duties. One of the latest rumors suggested that Sam Raimi, the director of the original Spider-Man film series, will be helming the film.

However, one industry insider could confirm from his sources that Raimi is not a choice for the studios. The news is upsetting to some fans, who were excited about the director’s potential involvement due to the popularity of Tobey Maguire’s films.

For years now, speculations have been active about Sam Raimi returning for a fourth Spider-Man film with Tobey Maguire. He even hinted at the same during a recent appearance at the New Jersey Monster-Mania, where he shared with a fan that if Maguire’s Spider-Man 4 were to happen, it would come at the right time (via @LukasASoaresRM).

However, fans received word from Jordan Ruimy of World of Reel this week that Raimi might join Marvel and Sony for a different Spider-Man 4. Ruimy reported that Raimi is considered for helming the Tom Holland-led film. The Evil Dead director is popular among CBM fans as the one who gave them the definitive movie trilogy in the superhero genre.

These fans will now be disappointed to learn that Raimi’s involvement is a very narrow possibility. Countering the scoop from World of Reel, Jeff Sneider reported on The Hot Mic with John Rocha that his sources shared that Raimi is not in the running for Spider-Man 4 director. Sneider shared, “My sources say that they would bet against it being Raimi. They don’t think it’ll be Raimi.”

While fans of the original Spider-Man films expected Raimi to bring back the magic, the current Marvel fans were not so confident in the director. This could be due to the director’s poor execution of the MCU project, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, Raimi was a better choice considering both the studios find it difficult to find a director after Jon Watts.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 Rumors Have Suggested Several Skilled Directors To Helm The Film

Earlier reports suggested that Sony and Marvel couldn’t come to an agreement about the direction of the film. Sony wants a multiversal film, while Marvel is looking to create a more grounded superhero film. Sony chief Tom Rothman wanted to bring back Watts as the director to bring their vision of a multiversal film with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire to screen (via Daniel Richtman).

However, Marvel wanted Drew Goddard, the Daredevil creator, to helm a more street-level Spider-Man film. Interestingly, Goddard is now reportedly attached to the fifth film in The Matrix, making him unavailable. According to The InSneider, Fast & Furious director Justin Lin was a name in the mix. However, he is now attached to Amazon’s Stakehorse and the One Punch Man live-action film.

Jordan Ruimy also shared the rumors about Spider-Man: Homecoming writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein helming the film. The duo directed the films Game Night and Dungeons & Dragons. Another popular name is Iron Man director Jon Favreau, who is a regular presence in the Spider-Man films.
