Antony Starr has impeccably done a pretty terrifying job at bringing Homelander — his character from The Boys — to life. So much so that he has quite easily (and rather perfectly) established himself as one of the most iconic villains of all time. But even as a villain, he has also managed to give birth to some meme material at the same time.

That said, during one of his most recent interviews for the series, he addressed one of these very viral moments that made their way to the internet as memes. And, ironically enough, Starr somewhat channeled his inner-villainous-self while doing so, making the people around him look uncomfortable at the personality he can direct so immaculately.

Antony Starr Addresses His Viral Homelander Moment

Recently, The Boys cast made its way to Josh Horowitz‘s Happy, Sad, Confused podcast to talk about everything from the latest released (and ongoing) season 4 to how they all got there in the first place. During this, Horowitz managed to get out some rather uncomfortable confessions from the saga’s lead actors as well.

One of these included Antony Starr as well, who was asked to address a scene “from the end of [season 3], instantly iconic, featuring Homelander in a very pivotal moment with a crowd that just eats up what he’s doing.” For the record, this scene was the one where Starr’s character kills a guy with his laser eyes for throwing a bottle at his onscreen child.

As the scene unfolded and showed one person from the crowd cheering Starr’s villain up for standing against abuse (even if it meant directly killing the abuser), the actor started sarcastically commenting in the background, saying, “Say it,” and “That’s my boy.” Eventually, as the entire crowd started cheering him on (in the scene), he even went on to say (via Josh Horowitz on YouTube):

F—k yeah. USA! USA! USA! Yeahhh, we’re dumb as f—k! Guns! Woah! Let the boy watch.

While this reaction and scene earned him loud hollering from the crowd, Horowitz just sat there with that “shaking-my-head” reaction, with his lips pursed and a smile playing on his face. But even before his seemingly uncomfortable and speechless self could try and find the right words to say, Starr went on to add further hilarity to this situation by trying to explain his comments.

And while Starr did, eventually, end up making the people around him uncomfortable while trying to justify his villain’s controversial actions, it was only so uncomfortable as it left everyone in hysterics.

Antony Starr Made Everyone Uncomfortable While Justifying Homelander’s Actions

Continuing, Starr tried to justify this scene, saying, “Yeah, but there was an assault. He was assaulted with a bottle. Alright, so it’s fair enough, right?” While initially, Horowitz and Colby Minifie tried to play along with a “We saw” and a “sure, sure, sure, sure,” this last comment of it being fair enough earned Starr an “Ehh, what?!” reaction from the interviewer.

Making all of it all the more hilarious, Starr continued trying to justify his point, saying to the audience, “You laugh, but if it was your kid…” Even when Minifie called him out saying he literally “killed” a guy for throwing a bottle at his child after he called it a “dumb thing,” Starr continued to channel his inner Homelander, saying, “Yeah, well, you know.”

Obviously, this “uncomfortable” reaction was anything but uncomfortable in real life, and the actors and interviewer were only just playing around as Starr sarcastically tried to justify his villain’s actions. Then again, Anthony Starr wouldn’t go ahead and do anything like this in real life, right Right?
