Usher Terry Raymond IV, a big name in today’s R&B and pop music scene, has won lots of awards—including 8 Grammys, 12 Soul Train Music Awards, and 8 American Music Awards. He’s even got 3 Guinness World Records. Usher is the fifth-most awarded artist with 18 wins at the Billboard Music Awards.

The Dallas native has earned a fortune his from his decades-long career. He has made money not only from his music career but also from endorsement deals and investments.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, his net worth sits at $180 million. But his finances took a nosedive when he was accused of giving his ex-partner herpes.

Usher’s Wealth Dropped Because of Herpes Allegations

Usher’s debut album sold 500,000 copies before even his high school ended. His album Confessions reached tremendous heights, selling over 10 million copies. It stayed at number one on the R&B chart for 11 weeks before dropping to the second spot on the Hot 100.

Right after finishing high school, Usher dropped his second album, My Way, in 1997. One of the big hits from that album was You Make Me Wanna.

Soon, he became a renowned name in the music industry. And now, with $180 million of net worth (per Celebrity Net Worth), he has become one of the richest R&B artists of all time. But during the time frame of 2020 to 2023, his net worth plunged by $20 million.

In 2017, Jane Doe (unnamed women in court cases) filled a lawsuit against him—claiming he exposed her to herpes virus during unprotected s*x.

Initially, she sued Usher for $10 million, alleging he didn’t disclose his condition before s*x. Later, she upped it to $20 million, citing emotional harm and punitive damages, too.

Two years later, TMZ reported that the case got dismissed because Usher and the woman “reached an amicable resolution.” When the tabloid asked them about the settlement’s cost “they would only repeat that word … ‘amicable.’ The dismissal was filed with prejudice … meaning it can’t be refiled, and that’s typically done when there’s been a financial settlement,” TMZ wrote.

As per The Daily Mail, the woman was Laura, a jazz musician, who had been friends with Usher for many years before they became romantically involved.

Then, Usher and Jenn Goicoechea were first seen together in June 2019 at a friend’s birthday party. They announced the birth of their first daughter on September 30, 2020—daughter Sovereign Bo, who’s now three. On October 29, 2021, Goicoechea gave birth to their second child, a son named Sire Castrello.
