Darth Vader is arguably the most popular Star Wars character, with the Sith Lord enjoying decades of pop culture reverence. Introduced as the primary antagonist of the original trilogy, Vader’s backstory as the fallen Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker was told in the prequels, with Hayden Christensen playing the role.
Almost twenty years later, Christensen returned to the franchise, leading to demands for a Darth Vader solo project. While there is no confirmation about the possibility of a Vader-centric project, that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating. Some fans have shared a desire to see one aspect of the Sith Lord explored more in the prospective solo film and here is what they had to say.
Star Wars Fans Want a Darth Vader Solo Movie to Focus on His Cunning Side
Darth Vader is one of the most iconic villains in fiction, first appearing back in the original Star Wars film from 1977. Over the years, Vader’s story has been explored in the mainline Star Wars movies and supplementary media.
One Reddit, user @Ntshangase03 shared a desire to see a solo project focusing on Darth Vader, further exploring his time as the Sith Lord. The user cited the example of the Star Wars Infinities comics, to showcase how Vader was not just a brute but also cunning in his approach.
Vader is a chess player who uses his great intellect to beat his opponents.
The user made the above statement, citing Vader luring Yoda in with his soft spot for children and taking advantage of it, from the comics that now fall under the Legends continuity. However, the tactful and cunning nature of Vader has also been showcased in the current canon.
The Darth Vader comics, which are a part of the new canon depict Vader hunting down the Jedi scattered across the galaxy. In the comics, Vader’s shrewd and calculating nature is often depicted, especially as he deals with those who try to oppose the dominance of the Empire.
Hayden Christensen is Interested in Returning as Darth Vader But a Solo Project Isn’t in the Pipeline
On paper, the idea of a Darth Vader solo film has been an appealing one since the character’s prime as a Sith Lord has never been depicted on the big screen. As a result, fans have hoped for Hayden Christensen to reprise his role in a solo project after he appeared in Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka.
After returning to the franchise, Christensen expressed an interest in continuing as the character during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. When asked about potentially featuring in a solo project, he said:
I would love to get to do more, and I’d love to get to continue with Star Wars and we’ll see.
At the same time, the actor expressed cautious optimism over his future in the franchise, confirming that he was unaware of future plans involving Vader. From Christensen’s words, it is safe to deduce that a solo project centering on Vader isn’t currently in development at Lucasfilm.
Furthermore, the recent slate of films and television shows in the galaxy far, far away seem to be moving on from the Skywalker saga. As a result, it is extremely unlikely that we will see a Darth Vader movie anytime soon. Nonetheless, should such a project materialize it should adopt the cunning aspect of Vader from the comics.
