Episode 9 of Valorant is building on the success of Episode 8, which introduced the community to a new agent named Clove and a new map Abyss. These additions were praised all around, setting a high bar for the upcoming content. Now, Valorant is teasing a new agent and fans can’t wait for the release.
While the details on the new agent are scarce, a recent teaser from Riot Games showed some interesting design elements that hint at the new agent’s abilities. The excitement among fans can’t be hidden away as they have come online to share their speculations and theories as the release date approaches.
New Valorant Agent Release Date Revealed
The new Valorant agent release date is set for August 23rd. After various speculations that claimed the release date to be August 25, the final day of the Valorant Champions tournament, it has now been confirmed that the official release date is August 23.
The upcoming agent is also confirmed to be an Initiator, a role responsible for starting attacks and pushing enemies out of their preferred positions.
This will be the seventh Initiator in Valorant, joining the ranks of Sova, Breach, Skye, KAY/O, Fade, and Gekko. However, aside from its role and reveal date, little else is known about the character beyond various teasers.
The most recent teaser showed spiky purple roots and thorns weaving out from beneath cracks in the ground. While clocked at just seven seconds, this was enough for fans to throw their ideas and theories into the mix.
Aside from this short teaser, another one surfaced at the end of the Abyss map trailer, depicting a claw inside a pod that moves, indicating the new agent has awakened.

One Riot Games fan said that the new Valorant agent reminds him of Zyra from League of Legends. Zyra is a champion with similar thorn-inspired aesthetics and it is no surprise that the new agent reminds them of the popular LoL hero.
