Valve has been rumored to be working on the Steam Deck 2 for a while now, the next edition of their massive handheld console but wasn’t expected to come out anytime soon. The Steam Deck was released almost two years back and an OLED version of the same was released just last year. So, rumors of the next version of the popular handheld console by Valve have surprised the gaming community.

A massive GPU upgrade, an OLED screen right off the bat, and new processor details have all emerged in the leaked details. There’s no news on the RAM capacity, but the specs so far already sound impressive. These details being rumors, should be taken with a bit of salt as always.

Steam Deck 2 is rumored to be powered by an AMD Zen 4 Hawk Point APU. The GPU is rumored to be AMD’s RDNA 4 which itself is rumored to be released in Q3 this year. While the RAM capacity isn’t known yet, its speed is rumored to be the latest LPDDR5X variant. The screen details mention a display resolution of 1440×900, an OLED display with a 90hz refresh rate.

The original Steam Deck is usually detected as a vertical screen, but the next edition, Steam Deck 2 is said to be a native horizontal screen with 900p pixel resolution. The screen details are still said to change before release.

Steam Deck 2 Could Win Over Switch 2 With These Specs

With these rumored specs, the next handheld by Valve might just win over more fans compared to the Switch 2. The next console update by Nintendo is also doing the rumors while no concrete specs details have arrived other than the console being on par with Sony’s PlayStation 4.

The Switch 2 might still come out before the gamers get their hands on a Steam Deck 2 which may not come out before late 2025 or later. Launching the Steam Deck 2 with an OLED screen rather than keeping fans waiting for an OLED edition could also make it a better buy.

Since the OLED edition of the original Steam Deck was released just a few months back, it’s highly unlikely Valve will go ahead with an official announcement on a Steam Deck 2 anytime soon.

Fans will no doubt keep an eye out for more rumors to come out about both the Steam Deck 2 and the Switch 2.
