Venom 3 has received an exciting update. The previous Tom Hardy-led movies followed what can be deemed an intriguing premise, to say the least. As the franchise keeps evolving, so does the crew involved with it. With the third film currently in the development stage, fans may be surprised to know that writer of the first two films Kelly Marcel is set to take the director’s seat in the upcoming endeavor.

The last film, directed by Andy Serkis, left a subpar impression (at best) in the minds of the people. Therefore, with this latest update, fans are eager to know whether or not a change in the directorial sphere might bring about much-necessary narrative excellence. While most are hopeful, some harbor feelings of doubt.

Marcel wrote and produced the first two Venom films. Hence, it comes off as no surprise to see her return for the third time in a row. However, this time around, not only is the screenwriter set to work on the screenplay for Venom 3 but she’s also ready to hone her direction skills.

Not much is known about this upcoming Tom Hardy-starrer. There have been no reports that detail or confirm the inclusion of previous characters from the franchise. Whether newer Marvel characters from other Sony endeavors will make an appearance or not cannot be ascertained either. Therefore, while plot details remain yet to be known, what has been alleged in a report by Deadline is Kelly Marcel’s involvement as the director of the third installment.

The first film saw its director in Ruben Fleischer and the second was undertaken by Andy Serkis. While the former managed to lay the foundation of what Venom’s character can bring to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, the latter did not manage to impress the critics or some of the fans. With an IMDb rating of 5.9/10 and a RottenTomatoes score of 57%, the film felt lackluster to many.

Therefore, with the third and upcoming picture, fans are placing their expectations on Kelly Marcel to steer the direction of Venom 3 in a way that serves to help build the narrative rather than crumble it down.

Fans’ Reaction To The Venom 3 Update

To say that the update has garnered split reactions would be an understatement. Some believe that Kelly Marcel’s direction may offer a promising endeavor. Others pointed out how Marcel’s writing was one of the key ingredients in shaping the premise of the first two films. Therefore, it cannot be completely substantiated whether or not her direction would bring about improvement to the written narrative of the franchise.

In the Deadline report, it was claimed that insiders believe that both Tom Hardy and Kelly Marcel are on the same page when it comes to what the two wish to convey through Venom 3‘s story. With the final chapter of the premise, the two know exactly what direction they plan on taking the existing narrative.

Therefore, while details surrounding the nature of such direction have yet to be disclosed, fans may be surprised with a carefully thought and well-fleshed-out plot for the third film. Who knows? For now, what we are left to speculate is whether or not the upcoming film, under Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, plans to bring about the much-awaited appearance of everyone’s favorite Web-Slinger, especially after the uber-discussed No Way Home mid-credits scene.

The first two Venom films are available for streaming on Hulu.
