Over time, several changes were introduced to the map in an attempt to keep the content fresh. Eventually, Activision completely removed the map from the game, which was a much-needed move at that point. However, this hasn’t stopped fans from requesting to bring back the map, even if it’s only for a season.

Fortunately for fans, it seems Activision and developers have acted upon the wishes, as the map is confirmed to be returning in 2025. The exact timeline for its return hasn’t been revealed yet, but it is expected to come back during the spring of 2025.

In the meantime, players can enjoy Area 99, which is supposed to be smaller and compact compared to other maps of the game. Additionally, Area 99 is also the birthplace of Nuketown, a map that is synonymous with the COD franchise.
