Battlefield 2042, the latest game in the Battlefield series, released in November 2021 to lukewarm reviews from both critics and fans. The game was a letdown in many ways, with several bugs and glitches, absent features from previous games, and some thematically inconsistent elements introduced in the gritty, grounded series. All of these factors combined made Battlefield 2042 one of the worst-reviewed games on Steam for a time.

But developer DICE didn’t give up on the game, instead opting to buckle down and work hard to fix everything that players didn’t like about the game through various updates. And it seems to have worked, with the quality of the game having significantly improved, the player count slowly rising and a much better overall atmosphere surrounding the game. DICE recently announced a major update that brings several improvements and new features, which were termed as “very interesting improvements and changes” by noted Battlefield YouTuber @TheCadWoman.

What are some of the key changes introduced in Update 5.3.0?

For starters, the in-game Codex brings together the very spread-out story elements of Battlefield 2042 into one place, which is significant as the game doesn’t have a traditional single-player campaign. Players can read the lore for all in-game elements right from their Profile.

The meat of the new update, though, lies in vehicular combat, specifically the Conquest-Wide Vehicle Count overhaul. According to DICE, they’re moving forward from All–Out Warfare launch maps, having finished them, and are now going to rework how vehicles play their part in the refurbished locations. Here’s what the official patch notes said:

“Scheduled for the week following Update 5.3, a server-side change will overhaul the vehicle counts for Conquest on all All-Out Warfare era maps. Areas we reviewed when deciding on improved vehicle counts per map are for example the locations, their fantasy and conflict, and player counts. The first update to vehicle counts is for our reworked All-Out Warfare Conquest maps. Vehicle counts on Battlefield Portal maps will be reviewed in a later update.”

Battlefield 2042 is also receiving some changes with regards to vehicles in the game, apart from the usual bug fixes that address issues present across the board.

What is Battlefield 2042: Redux?

Battlefield 2042: Redux is a new in-game event set between the gap during New Dawn and Season 6, and it was announced on 15th August. Redux releases on August 29th and runs till October 10th, 2023. As per DICE, they wanted to give players to relive some of their favorite Battlefield 2042 moments, saying:

“We’ve heard from you that you would love to revisit some of your favorite previous Battlefield 2042 moments, alongside having the chance to earn new rewards or ones you might’ve missed. So before we head into Season 6, we want to give you that opportunity starting on August 29 with Redux.”

After explaining the rationale behind Redux, the developer then expanded on what it is:

“During Redux we’re excited to bring back new ways to play across your favorite modes and maps, as well as making new and returning weekly rewards available to earn. From Rush Chaos XL, Tactical Conquest, and Breakthrough Chaos to Conquest Assault, Shutdown, and more. We’re giving you a wide variety of ways to play and earn rewards. But we’re not just bringing these modes back as they were. We’ve listened to your feedback, so expect refined modes every week, on more maps, and with new player counts. This also includes the return of The Liquidators, Battle of Nordvik, and Leviathan Rising Limited-Time Events, and modes.”
