Conor McGregor gained widespread acclaim in the MMA world by achieving the rare feat of capturing both the lightweight and featherweight championships simultaneously. His remarkable achievements propelled him to the forefront of the sport, solidifying his status as one of its most iconic figures.
It has already been established that he can act thanks to his role on Road House, which released this year. However, it appears that Vin Diesel had created a role for him in Fast and Furious, but Conor McGregor simply could not do it.
Conor McGregor Turned Down Major Fast and Furious Vin Diesel Made For Him
Conor McGregor’s journey to Hollywood wasn’t initially destined for the recently released Road House remake. The UFC star was initially approached by Vin Diesel for a role in xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, but McGregor ultimately withdrew from the project due to an unexpected reason.
Diesel, renowned for his action-packed roles, disclosed in an interview with Brazilian TV show Giro Combate that he had envisioned a role tailored for an English-speaking fighter in his movie. Specifically, he had crafted a part with Conor McGregor in mind. However, McGregor’s first professional loss to Nate Diaz at UFC 196 disrupted those plans.
“I had created a role for Conor McGregor and after he lost to Nate Diaz, he had to go into a dark place, he had to get his manhood back to fight the second time, so he wasn’t able to do this film, at the time.”
Following his defeat to Diaz, Conor McGregor did bounce back, securing victory in the rematch via decision five months later. However, Vin Diesel needed to fill the role and maintain the desired English accent. Eventually, he turned to former middleweight champion Michael Bisping.
Conor McGregor Says Studios Tried To Get Him Into Films Long Before Road House
In a recent interview with Men’s Journal, Conor McGregor discussed his upcoming role in Road House, his training for a potential bout against Michael Chandler, his experiences with fatherhood, the success of his Proper Twelve whiskey, and his plans to utilize his signature left-handed hook in the ring once again.
When asked about his venture into acting and why Road House was the right fit, McGregor shared that studios had been trying to get him into a movie long before Road House.
“I’ve had people trying to get me on board the movie business for a long time now. I’ve been curious, but there’s never been one that was a true fit. I’ve been more focused on the fight business than show business. But this is a fight movie. I was actually brought in by the people at UFC. And to get to act alongside Jake Gyllenhaal was a draw. I’m a huge fan of Jake’s work, so I was honored to be doing this with him. We both have tremendous respect for each other in our respective crafts, so we were on to something really good.”
As for whether Conor McGregor will pursue more movie roles in the future, only time will tell as he has shown he is made for Hollywood.
