As the first foray into Marvel’s Phase Four, WandaVision has been heralded as one of the most important setpieces for the future of Marvel Cinematic Universe. Starring Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany as Vision, the show will follow the story of the star-crossed lovers. After the release of the first trailer, dubbed as wacky, funny, and deeply unsettling, the show is speculated to be the most ambitious project of Marvel Studios so far.
After the release of the first trailer, the official merchandise for WandaVision was released for Halloween depicting the comic-book accurate costumes of Scarlet Witch and Vision. Now, the show has released a lot more merchandise featuring the supporting characters, alongside the show’s primary protagonists.
In the first trailer of WandaVision, the show seemed to follow the stylistic approach of soap operas from the ’50s and the later decades that followed. However, one of the most important reveals of the trailer was a grown-up Monica Rambeau, played by Chi-Raq star Teyonah Parris.
In the latest merchandise reveal of WandaVision by Monogram Products, 11 new bag clips have been made available, each featuring a version of the character from the show. Fans of Monica Rambeau are in for a treat as the merchandise has revealed the classic black and white costume from the comic books.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
The bag clip featuring Monica Rambeau nods to the source material of Monica Rambeau aka Captain Marvel. Earlier, the character of Monica Rambeau had appeared in the Brie Larson starring Captain Marvel, portrayed by Akira Akbar. However, the show will feature a grown-up version of the character, as shown in the trailer.
In the comics, Monica Rambeau is the second character to take up the mantle of Captain Marvel after being bombarded by extradimensional energy, which granted her superpowers. Her powers include energy absorption, manipulation, and the ability to convert her body into any kind of energy that lies within the electromagnetic spectrum. She can also fly at the speed of light while in her energy form in the deep vacuum of space.
The merch also reveals a miniature symbol, which most likely hints at the possible S.W.O.R.D. connection that was shown in the trailer. As an agent of S.W.O.R.D., Monica Rambeau might be a part of the investigative team which will uncover the deeply unsettling world of Scarlet Witch’s altered reality.
In the trailer, a grown-up Monica Rambeau was seen lying on the ground in what seems like an aftermath of a massive explosion. This might explain how Monica Rambeau gains her powers and becomes the second Captain Marvel.
The merch also reveals various different costumes of Wanda and Vision, including the outfits from the 1950s and the following decades of soap operas. Though the recent delay in the release of WandaVision has left many fans disappointed, the latest reveal will surely crank up the anticipation for Marvel’s most ambitious project so far.
WandaVision is set to release on January 15th, 2021.
