Ever since Kevin Feige made the announcement that Wanda will appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we began to speculate that WandaVision will set up the mystical sequel. And for that setup, Strange could have an appearance in the Disney+ series as well. After that, Paul Bettany started talking about a mystery cameo towards the end of the series. While that cameo turned out to be Paul Bettany himself, we were all speculating it to be Doctor Strange. But why is it that Strange did not appear in WandaVision? This question has been answered by head writer and showrunner, Jac Schaeffer.

In an interview with Deadline, she was asked about Doctor Strange’s appearance in Phase 4’s first series. And here’s what she had to say in her reply:

“I heart Doctor Strange just like anybody. Yeah, it’s one of those things, that’s how the chips fell, that’s how the cookie crumbled, is what I will say, but I look forward to seeing him on screen with Wanda in Doctor Strange 2.”

Doctor Strange Teases In WandaVision

There were several teases for Doctor Strange. First of all, Nick Fury (Talos) mentioned that Doctor Strange was unavailable during Spider-Man: Far From Home. Secondly, the revelation of magic in WandaVision was also taken as a Doctor Strange tease. Third, Agatha Harkness name-dropped the Sorcerer Supreme. So, a cameo from Benedict Cumberbatch would have been on point.

But it would be fair to say that the series did fine even without Doctor Strange, or any other characters that we were speculating to appear. The final scene of WandaVision perfectly setup Wanda’s appearance in Doctor Strange 2. She was reading the Darkhold in the same way as Doctor Strange learned spells while his training. And during this scene, the background score was actually a darker version of Doctor Strange’s theme. This was a major hint about the Scarlet Witch teaming up with the future Sorcerer Supreme.

It will be interesting to see whether Strange will have to teach Wanda the ways of Sorcerers, or will he have to battle her. What do you guys think about Wanda’s arc in her next appearance? Will she be the villain? Tell us in the comments.
