Dragon Ball Super brought back the smiles on the anime fans. After Dragon Ball Z, there were several attempts to extend the franchise, but all of the projects failed. But DBS started great by bringing gods into the plot. But Toyotarou and Toriyama had a surprise in store for the fans. After the first couple of arcs, they brought back Future Trunks in one of the most horrific turn of events.

Everyone was surprised to see it was Goku who destroyed Future Trunks’ universe. But later, it was revealed to be Zamasu, one of the Gods in training. He took over Goku’s body and became Goku Black. Even though he was quite a menace, his initial draft revealed him to be the exact opposite.

Goku Black Was Never Supposed To Last So Long

Goku Black and Zamasu were never intended to be a major threat to the Saiyan warriors. Even though they were the same individual, they belonged to different timelines. They terrorized Future Trunks’ planet, killed Future Bulma, and even fought on par with Goku and Vegeta. Nothing of these things was planned. When Toyotarou first revealed Akira Toriyama’s draft, he was shocked to see a god being so weak.

During an interview with the late Akira Toriyama, he said,

“Zamasu actually wasn’t all that strong of a character in the original draft I received from Toriyama-sensei. Though immortal, his strength was such that two Super Saiyan Blues were more than enough to take him on. It’s precisely because of this that in the original draft, things unfolded so that his “immortality” and “Potara time limit” became key, and Goku and Vegeta took turns fighting him. Goku and Vegeta didn’t fuse in the original draft.”

After taking over Goku’s body in his respective universe, he attained unimaginable strength. In the Saiyan’s body, he even unlocked a new transformation, Super Saiyan Rose, where his hair turned pink. Goku and Vegeta had to fuse using Potara Rings to take on the antagonist. While he wasn’t strong on Akira Toriyama’s drafts, Toyptarou gave him quite the boost.

No Dragon Ball Saiyans Can Tranform Into Super Saiyan Rose

The fans would have missed one of the best antagonists of the Dragon Ball franchise if Akira Toriyama’s drafts were final. He underpowered the villain so much that the Saiyan duo would not even need Fusion. They could have just double-teamed him to end his tyranny. But that does not take away any credit from the character since he unlocked a new Saiyan transformation.

The true extent of Super Saiyan Rose was not explored, but it could easily take on Super Saiyan Blue. It was a rare transformation that Goku and Vegeta also failed to achieve. Toyotarou changed the drafts and added new elements to make the arc more exciting. If the initial draft had been finalized, there would have been no Super Saiyan Rose and no Vegito. Another thing that was beautifully portrayed in the Goku Black arc was the portrayal of warped justice.

Dragon Ball can be streamed on Crunchyroll, and the manga is available on Viz Media.
