With James Gunn being the co-head of the DC Studios, the chief executive is trying everything in his power to keep audiences engaged and hooked on the DC characters. It seems to be proving quite difficult for the director, however, as the DC characters are utterly shattered.

James Gunn Reveals A Rather Disappointing Update

In 2022, the world changed when Robert Pattinson’s Batman was allowed to roam the streets of Gotham City. Protecting his home from The Riddler and The Penguin, Pattinson was hailed as quite a strong Batman and the movie received generally positive reviews.

Although James Gunn and Peter Safran became the co-heads of the DCU, it was announced that The Batman 2 will be in development and will be a part of the OtherVerse, a separate universe from the DCU but within the realms of DC characters. In an X (formerly Twitter) post, a rather disheartening update by James Gunn on the status of The Batman 2 leaves fans brokenhearted!

Although some people took it as a good sign that the creators were taking their sweet time, several fans, on the other hand, couldn’t wait to see Pattinson’s Batman in action once again.

With some public pressure on the rise, while others waiting patiently for the film, the division could cost the DCU since James Gunn is the one updating the news. Having released The Flash under his reign, Gunn is regretting some statements that he had said in hopes of promoting the $200 million movie.

Before the release of The Flash, James Gunn had revealed that The Flash was one of the greatest superhero movies that he had ever seen. With cameos from Nicolas Cage and George Clooney among several others, Gunn revealed in a Threads discussion that he hates unnecessary cameos!

“I call that ‘Cameo P*rn’ and it has been one of the worst elements of recent superhero films,–If a character is in film, they have to have a reason to be there story-wise. “I don’t mind actual cameos – if it’s a glimpse or a moment, an Easter egg.”

He further continued,

“What bothers me is when they mangle an elegant story by shoehorning characters in – they aren’t there because the story calls for it, but for some other reason”

With The Batman 2 previously slated for a release date of 3rd October 2025, it seems that the newest update might bring a significant amount of delay to the release date. Although Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson will indeed be doing their level best to keep up with fan’s expectations, some things aren’t meant to happen. As for the 2022 movie, The Batman is currently available to stream on Max in the U.S.
