Eric Kripke’s The Boys has forever changed the superhero genre as it featured an unorthodox take that was immediately appreciated by the fans. The popularity stemmed from deviating from the original concept of how superheroes should be noble and save the day. However, Kripke defenestrates that notion as he makes the heroes become villains. As a result, the show became an instant hit and the new favorite show of the viewers.

With the 4th season around the corner, fans of the show are already distressed about the ending of the show because of the showrunner’s comment on how he had changed his mind midway through continuing the show, and in all probability The Boys will continue after the fifth season.

Eric Kripke’s Comments on The Boys’ Future has Already Concerned The Fans

Eric Kripke’s The Boys is built on a plot of vengeance, where Billy Butcher wants to get back on Vought Industries, an organization that manufactures superheroes. He joins Hughie Campbell, whose girlfriend was murdered by A-Train, a member of The Seven. Over the 3 seasons of the show, it has grown immensely in popularity, as it gets too real, showcasing outrageous action, dark humor, and an over-the-top plot.

It was initially decided that The Boys would continue for five seasons. He even said “rough idea in my head is five seasons total” in a Q&A session on X back in 2020. However, he added that he was hesitant to make any firm decisions because his Supernatural continued for a total of 15 seasons, and he would prefer keeping his mouth shut.

My last show, Supernatural, I said five seasons for sure, and then that f***er went 15. So I’m mostly going to keep my mouth shut, but creatively five feels like a good round number.

Moreover, in a different interview with Entertainment Weekly, Vernon Sanders, an Amazon Executive hinted that the Kripke is not ending The Boys anytime soon because his vision will take years to complete, and they have immense faith in the showrunner.

He said,

Eric has had a vision for what this all leads to for years now, and we’ve been in an ongoing conversation about what comes next. So, it’s probably premature to talk about that beyond saying we believe in Eric, and if Eric is interested in continuing the story, we’ll be the first ones in line to really work with him on what that is.

Moreover, in a quote shared by Inverse, Kripke acknowledged how it was immensely foolish of him to predict “how many seasons their show was going to go,” and he is the “dumbest” person to say this in the first place.

He said,

No one was more wrong in all of human history about how many seasons their show was going to go than this guy. So I am not going to make that same mistake twice. Guinness World Record of who is dumbest about how long their show should go, there would literally be a picture of me.

Nevertheless, with Eric Kripke changing his mind midway through the show, fans are tensed that their favorite might potentially be ruined, and the finale of The Boys would be mediocre like HBO’s Game of Thrones.

The Boys’ Fans React To Eric Kripke’s Comments and How They Might Receive a GOT level Finale

Eric Kripke’s comments had worried the fandom because the thought of continuing their favorite show was great. However, they are worried because the showrunner and Amazon Studios might milk the franchise dry, resulting in an average finale.

Much like HBO’s Game of Thrones, which had an outstanding 7 seasons but a subpar finale that made the fans utterly disappointed for eagerly waiting for the show’s final season. As a result, fans have gone to X to share their opinion of Kripke’s decision to continue the show after the 5th season.

Even though it is too early to judge how The Boys’ finale would be, continuing the show just for the sake of earning from its popularity would be a bad idea, as it will take seconds for the fandom to turn its eye on the show, and lose its status of being the best superhero show to be ever created.

The Boys Season 4 will be released on 13 June 2024.
