Today, Emma Stone has achieved the peak of her success in the industry. She has worked with some of the greatest directors in Hollywood including Alejandro González Iñárritu, and Damien Chazelle. The actor went on to win an Oscar for her performance in La La Land. But before all that, Stone admitted to being super jealous of her fellow Oscar-winning actor Jennifer Lawrence. The Hunger Games actor was “so great and vibrant and talented,” Stone told Vanity Fair once.

“She may not even know this, but there was definitely a time early on when I was like, ‘Oh hey my ego is going nuts, she’s so great and vibrant and talented, I’m screwed, I’ll never work again, goodbye yellow brick road.’”

In her early career, Stone used to compare herself to Lawrence as the X-Men actor was already a fame and her performance in The Hunger Games has fuelled further insecurities for the actor.

“Then I chilled the f*ck out — and remembered we’re completely different and there is room for everyone, even if it’s an industry that doesn’t really seem to support that idea up front,” Stone said.

Thankfully, Stone has overcome her jealousy towards Lawrence and they have eventually become friends while both being among the most remarkable actors of the generation.

Stone’s jealousy did not last long as she initiated the friendship with her fellow Marvel star. Stone has worked with Woody Harrelson in Zombieland and he was a mutual friend of both the stars. As per reports, Stone has asked her co-star for Lawrence’s phone number and eventually reach out to her with a text.

“I replied, ‘F*ck off,’” Lawrence once told Vanity Fair recalling their initial conversation via text messages. “And we’ve been really good friends ever since.” Further, Lawrence jokingly said, “I feel like it was our version of The Notebook — 365 texts.”

“We both really do love each other and care about each other as people, beyond being actors. I support her completely when it comes to work and I feel the same from her, but I know we’d be friends even if we didn’t do the same job,” Lawrence said.

Later, Stone admitted to watching Lawrence’s interviews for The Hunger Games. “I love Jennifer Lawrence and I watched a lot of her interviews for Hunger Games. It was kind of the same thing she was feeling,” she once told Access.

“What scared me was the idea of, ‘What could happen to my life after doing something like this?’ But the part and the process outweighed that fear,” Stone said recalling her early days when she was insecure about her career.

“It felt like a stupid reason to not be part of this – what might happen [and] how [my] life could change didn’t feel like enough of a reason to not play Gwen, not to get to be involved with this and not to get to act with Andrew [Garfield] or to get to tell the story in a different way,” Stone said.

Stone is set to appear in Yorgos Lanthimos’ sci-fi fantasy Poor Things, scheduled for release on  8 September 2023. Lawrence will appear in Gene Stupnitsky’s comedy No Hard Feelings, set to release on 23 June 2023.
