Despite negative results from genetic testing and a normal mammogram in February 2023, Munn received the shocking diagnosis two months later. Over the following ten months, she underwent four surgeries and endured countless days bedridden, learning extensively about cancer and its treatments.

In the past ten months I have had four surgeries, so many days spent in bed I can’t even count and have learned more about cancer, cancer treatment and hormones than I ever could have imagined.” Olivia Munn wrote on Instagram. She added that she kept the diagnosis and treatment private because she needed to “catch my breath” and “get through the hardest parts before sharing.”

Munn credited her ob-gyn for potentially saving her life by calculating her Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Score, which led to further tests and the discovery of Luminal B cancer in both breasts. Just 30 days after the biopsy, she underwent a double mastectomy.

She discovered my lifetime risk was at 37%,” Munn explained, which led to her getting further tests. “The biopsy showed I had Luminal B cancer in both breasts,” she said, which is a fast-moving and aggressive type; “30 days after that biopsy I had a double mastectomy.”

“I went from feeling completely fine one day to waking up in a hospital bed after a 10-hour surgery the next. I’m lucky. We caught it with enough time that I had options. I want the same for any woman who might have to face this one day.”

Throughout her ordeal, Munn expressed gratitude for the support of her loved ones, particularly her partner John Mulaney, with whom she shares her son Malcolm. Mulaney, in turn, expressed his love and admiration for Munn in the comments section of her post.

Munn’s openness about her experience aims to provide comfort and inspiration to others facing similar battles, while also shedding light on the importance of early detection and supportive relationships during challenging times.

I’m so thankful to John for the nights he spent researching what every operation and medication meant and what side effects and recovery I could expect,” Munn wrote. “For being there before I went into each surgery and being there when I woke up, always placing framed photos of our little boy Malcolm so it would be the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes.”

Fans are certainly glad Olivia Munn survived cancer and will now go on to live a happy and healthy life, something that fans feel she deserves.

Olivia Munn, known for her roles in The Newsroom and as Psylocke in X-Men: Apocalypse, made an appearance on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson in 2011. Host Craig Ferguson humorously introduced her, mentioning that they couldn’t secure William Shatner for the show.

During the interview, Munn recounted her first encounter with Shatner, where he allegedly made a crass comment about her. She shared that Shatner greeted her warmly but then made a remark about her friend, joking that she would be an expensive escort. While Munn found the comment surprising, she chose to take it as a compliment.

“You know if she were an escort she’d be an expensive one.”

Ferguson chimed in, suggesting that Shatner’s comment was likely meant as a compliment given his personality, adding his own humorous perspective on the situation.
