Henry Cavill doesn’t immediately come across as a dog person in his Superman suit. But his canine companion, Kal, is the most precious thing to him in the world. The American Akita has been a constant in Cavill’s life for more than nine years. Cavill revealed that Kal traveled with him around the world, and even played a crucial role in saving his mental health.
Cavill became a globally recognized star after his role as Clark Kent / Superman in the DCEU. He played the role for nine years until his departure last year due to a restructuring of the DC brand. Cavill also played the Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher and Sherlock Holmes in Enola Holmes.
Henry Cavill’s Most Precious Dog Will Capture Your Heart
The most striking attraction on Henry Cavill’s Instagram page, besides the muscular Man of Steel, is his big furry friend, Kal. During an interview with Lorraine Kelly, Cavill brought along Kal and introduced him to Kelly, who loved him. The Tudors actor opened up about his deep affection for Kal, who had been with him for almost eight years at that point.
Cavill shared that Kal accompanied him everywhere, providing comfort during his global travels. Kal was not just his companion, but also his most reliable emotional support system. The Argylle actor revealed that Kal had saved him from emotional and psychological burdens multiple times. Cavill also emphasized the “incredibly close bond” they share. The Batman v. Superman actor told Lorraine:
“He really is [my best friend]. We go everywhere together. He’s 8 now and he has saved my emotional, psychological bacon plenty of times. He is that important to me. We have an incredibly close bond.”
Cavill and his girlfriend, Natalie Viscuso, recently mourned the loss of their other dog, Meat, a French bulldog. They later brought home a new puppy named Baggins, who Cavill revealed has been trying to make friends with Kal. The Justice League actor revealed that Kal has been putting on this rather grumpy old man attitude toward the over-enthusiastic Baggins.
Henry Cavill’s Man Of Steel Role Will Remain Close To His Heart
Henry Cavill’s first attempt at wearing the Superman cape was in the canceled project, Superman: Flyby. Eventually, Zack Snyder chose him as his Superman in the DC Extended Universe film, Man of Steel. He reprised the role in various installments, including Black Adam in 2022. In November of that year, he was let go from his role due to a restructuring at DC.
During his appearance on Lorraine, Cavill shared his gratitude for the wonderful opportunity of playing Superman. Cavill shared that even if he were to retire the next day, he would be content knowing he wore the cape and brought joy to many people. Cavill spoke highly of his Man of Steel role on Lorraine:
“You look back and you just think, what a wonderful opportunity. And even if I were to stop acting tomorrow and go live on a yacht or boat somewhere, a sailing boat, and just travel the Med… I can still look back and say I’ve worn a cape and leaped about the place and entertained some people.”
Henry Cavill will be next seen in Matthew Vaughn’s spy thriller Argylle. He is also set to appear in another spy thriller directed by Guy Ritchie, The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Man of Steel and other DCU movies are now available for streaming on Max.
