Barney Ross and his team of mercenaries are returning to theaters later this month, as director Scott Waugh takes charge of guiding the fourth installment of the Expendables franchise.

Alongside Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham and Dolph Lundgren are also set to reprise their much-loved roles in the action thriller, and they will be joined by Megan Fox’s Gina in their mission. However, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has made cameo appearances in all three previous Expendables movies as Trench – who shares a very interesting dynamic with Barney – isn’t going to be part of Expend4bles.

The Expendables series is all about Barney’s team taking on impossible challenges and doing their best to avoid life-threatening enemies in their pursuit. In that regard, it seems Schwarzenegger, who is 76 now, has experienced enough action and near misses behind the camera in recent years.

What Went Wrong During Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Heart Surgery

As his former Expendables teammates, including Sylvester Stallone, get ready to talk about their forthcoming adventure in Expend4bles, Arnold Schwarzenegger recently took time to open up about undergoing open heart surgery.

The Terminator star talked about complications he experienced after his third open heart surgery – which he underwent in 2018. He shared his experience in a YouTube video:

“I remember when I had my open heart surgery, my third one… I was really freaking out, and I woke up all of the sudden and the doctor was standing in front of me, and saying ‘I’m so sorry, but unlike what we planned, a non-invasive surgery… we made a mistake and poked through the heart wall, and there was internal bleeding, and we had to open you up to save your life.'”

Schwarzenegger didn’t dwell on this and instead cohesively planned his recovery. “The bottom line is, you cannot roll the clock back,” he said. “I was in the middle of a disaster… so now it’s about, ‘how do I get out of it?’ You have to shift gears.”

The recovery plan included focusing on achieving small but measured goals. From just getting out of bed to targeting 10 steps. Schwarzenegger also noted he didn’t shy away from asking his friends for help to motivate him along the way.

Which Movie Arnold Schwarzenegger Did Months After He Almost Drowned In His Own Blood

Trench might not be coming to Barney’s rescue this time. But in 2018, Schwarzenegger made sure he recovered swiftly enough to start training and subsequently filming for Terminator: Dark Fate just months after his open heart surgery.

The seven-time Mr. Olympia was determined to be in shape for Terminator 6 and managed to get back to his best for the movie which hit the theaters in November of 2019. The fact everything happened in a year or so is impressive on his part.

Schwarzenegger starred alongside Linda Hamilton to fight against an advanced Terminator, Rev-9. Frustratingly, the movie flopped at the box office, making just $261.1 million globally. Apart from the former bodybuilder’s resilience and action sequences, not much was served to the fans.
