Dragon Ball has established itself as one of the most globally recognized franchises and has an enormous fanbase compared to other anime series. A significant reason for the popularity of Dragon Ball is Vegeta, whom some fans adore even more than Goku.
The vast fanbase of Vegeta often discusses one question: why was Vegeta unable to regrow his tail back, which he was expecting to?
Tails play a crucial role in Saiyans as they grant them the ability to transform into Oozaru, a giant monkey. However, it is also one of their significant weaknesses, as it can weaken them significantly if someone squishes them, as seen when Goku made Raditz weak by grabbing his tail.
A recent fan theory that might reveal the most logical reason Vegeta failed to grow his tail back in Dragon Ball has surfaced, and it points toward the S-Cell in a Saiyan’s body.
Vegeta might not have been able to grow his tail back due to his S-Cells
Vegeta is one of the most well-known anime characters ever and is often deemed the best deuteragonist in Shonen, alongside Zoro and Sasuke. His journey from being the series’ primary antagonist to fighting alongside the Z fighters to save Earth has been truly commendable.
Throughout his journey in Dragon Ball, he has accumulated a lot of friends and family while earning millions of fans worldwide who adore him for his tough personality and attitude towards always working hard and never giving up, irrespective of the situation.
In his journey, although Vegeta gained a lot of things, he lost a very crucial thing from his body: his tail. Vegeta lost his tail to Yajirobe, who sneaked up on him and severed it. After the battle on Earth in Dragon Ball Z, Vegeta expected his tail to grow back.
However, it never did, surprising many fans, as their tails were one of the crucial points about Saiyan’s. It was never addressed in the manga and left fans needing clarification. Luckily, one of the theories might have the answer to this.
According to a Reddit user, u/KaboomKrusader, Vegeta never grew back his tail due to S-cells. According to the user, Saiyan Tail and S-Cells have a yin-yang relationship. As you may know, S-cells hinder tail regrowth, and to become a Super Saiyan, it is vital to have a high amount of S-cells.
Since Vegeta is so far above Super Saiyan, it is safe to assume that Vegeta has an abnormal amount of S-cells. Therefore, the cells constantly suppress his tail, which would typically grow again.
However, if, by exception, the tail emerges alongside rising S-Cells, we get something like Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta, who had his tail attached to the body.
The theory also claims that exposure to Bruitz waves plays a crucial role in the growth of tails in Saiyans. Since Vegeta lived most of his life on Earth, which had no moon due to it getting destroyed by Piccolo and thus no Bruitz waves, his tail could not grow like it was expected. Remember that he kept getting stronger, resulting in more and more S-cells.
S-Cells and their importance in Saiyans
S-Cells are one of the very crucial aspects of Saiyan, and they significantly affect their life. You need a high quantity of S-Cells to transcend into a Super Saiyan. The nature of the Saiyan also plays a very pivotal role.
A Saiyan with an aggressive nature, such as Vegeta, will require more emotional stress and will have a tougher time attaining Super Saiyan than someone with a gentle nature, like Saiyan’s from Universe 6, such as Kafka and Cabba.
The Saiyans from Universe 6 achieved Super Saiyan relatively quickly compared to their neighboring universe. They lived a good life away from ruthless wars, existed peacefully, and had massive S-cells. This was shown in the tournament of power, as they ascended quickly compared to Goku, Vegeta, and others.
Another example could be Trunks and Goten, who were born during peaceful times and achieved the legendary form of Super Saiyan without much trouble at a very young age. The reason was their upbringing in relatively better surroundings than their fathers, Goku and Vegeta.
