Actor Jensen Ackles has been a fan-favorite to potentially play the character of Batman aka Bruce Wayne in the DCU. And now with an opening at the Studios, Twitter has been flooded with fans asking to give Jensen Ackles a chance. James Gunn and Peter Safran announced a number of exciting projects for the upcoming era of the DCU. One particularly intriguing project is titled Batman: The Brave and the Bold which is inspired by Grant Morrison’s comic series. Since Ben Affleck will not be called to reprise his Batman role and Robert Pattinson’s Batman is kept separate from the DCU, fans are calling for Jensen Ackles to take on the role stating that he would be perfect as Bruce Wayne.

Ackles, who is widely loved for his portrayal of Dean Winchester in Supernatural, has himself shown interest in playing a live-action Batman. The fan cast isn’t totally one out of the blue as Ackles has had some experience playing the superhero, even if it is through his voice. He gave his voice to Bruce Wayne/Batman in both parts of Batman: The Long Halloween. Apart from that, he also voiced Jason Todd aka Red Hood in Batman: Under the Red Hood.

While appearing for Supernatural Official Convention in New Jersey, Ackles once again brought his desire to play Batman to the limelight. When asked which character he would want to play from DC, Ackles took no time in responding with “Batman.”

“Batman. Let’s be clear about that. I’ve gotten to do the voice, why not get to play the Bat? Maybe someone at Gotham Knights can put in a good word for me if that role ever comes up.”

By “Someone at Gotham Knights” Ackles obviously pointed the finger in his co-star Misha Collins’ direction who is all set to play Harvey Dent in CW’s Gotham Knights. With The Boys’ actor’s experience with the character and his passion combined together, he is definitely a worthy nomination to don the mask of Batman. Do you agree?

While talking about the new Batman project, Gunn stated that neither Affleck nor Pattinson will play the role of Batman in Batman: The Brave and the Bold. He mentioned that Affleck is looking to direct one of the projects and the Studios are excited about it.

He then talked about The Brave and the Bold where he clarified that while the project will have Bruce Wayne in it, the story does not revolve around him. Instead, it focuses on his son, Damian Wayne.

But this is a story of Damian Wayne, who is Batman’s actual son, who we didn’t know existed for the first eight to ten years of his life. He was raised as a little murderer and assassin. He’s a little son of a bit*h. He’s my favourite Robin, based on the Grant Morrison comic books run which is one of my favourite Batman runs, and we are putting all that together right now.”

The story does look promising, we aren’t gonna lie! A new Batman and a new Superman might not be as bad as we thought, after all. But with Affleck and Pattinson out of the picture, we really wonder who gets to bring this Batman to life. Will Gunn finally give Ackles his dream project?
