Having Blake Lively potentially canceled was certainly not in the cards for 2024. One of the most influential and fan-favorite celebrities of our time, Lively has found herself tangled with controversy lately. It all started when the press tour for her latest movie, It Ends with Us, was kicked off. In a movie based on domestic violence, fans have found her ‘publicity’ problematic and have alleged that the actress has been using the film only to promote herself instead of the crucial theme it is based on.

Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively drama seems to be a neverending web of shocking events and details, with more and more appealing on-set drama making its way to the mainstream as the film continues to perform well at the box office. While reports of Lively and Baldoni having creative differences on set, Lively taking creative decisions without the permission of Baldoni (who is the director) (via US Weekly), and Lively allegedly feeling uncomfortable with the actor, and more (via TMZ); Lively-Baldoni’s alleged feud is also fueled by the different approaches the duo have taken during the promotion of their film.

While Lively has been promoting the movie with ‘grab your friends, wear your florals’, Baldoni has been more sensitive and thoughtful during the interviews (see X). As comparisons of the duo’s widely different approaches to the film go viral, Evie Magazine put together a video of all the fan reactions from the many real-life ‘Lily Blooms’, the majority of whom took Baldoni’s side and supported him amid alleged ongoing feud.

Lily Bloom, in the movie and book, is a character who undergoes domestic abuse and a series of traumatic experiences while caught in what she believed was a ‘love match’. By the end of the story, she finally realizes the tragedy of her ‘love life’ and her abusive marriage, breaking it off with her husband, and telling her daughter that the cycle of abuse ‘ends with us’.

Pretty much since the start of the press tour of It Ends with Us, fans, especially s*xual abuse and domestic abuse survivors have found Blake Lively’s approach to the film problematic. Many of them have expressed, after seeing the Green Lantern star’s interviews, that the film seems more poised as a romantic love story instead of a movie based on a sensitive topic like domestic abuse.

On the other hand, is director and actor Justin Baldoni, who since the start has maintained a serious tone on the movie’s theme and has always handled questions regarding the film with sensitivity (see X). God bless Justin. We need more kind men like him in the world. -@love__raphael

I can’t believe this is the same movie Blake is promoting telling you to wear your flower dresses and take a friend. -@citytalks

This is the message of the movie! Not upping Blake Lively’s star power with her pretending to be on the Barbie film. -@maemaymia38

This is the marketing we need. This is how you promote a story with such a heavy and important message, not encouraging girls to wear florals and introducing your haircare brand. -@archaicacademia

I will defend this man like my life depends on it. -@moti_madrasi

We all need the inspiration to leave and to know life goes on. Thank you Justin for putting so much research and respect into this movie while the other main character is making a joke of it. -@kari.o.holden

As Baldoni continues to win fans over, Blake Livley’s public image continues to suffer. Although It Ends with Us has so far been performing well at the box office, only time will tell how such negative reactions around the film’s press will affect the two actors and the film in the future.
