Batman, aka Bruce Wayne, is certainly one of the most challenging characters in James Gunn’s DCU. It was clear that, following the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, changes would be made to both the DC Universe and DC Films. Those changes happened even faster than many had anticipated, as Gunn and Peter Safran are now co-heading DC Studios and will oversee DC projects for TV, video games, and the big screen.

Bale’s portrayal of the brooding billionaire by day and vigilante crimefighter by night raised the bar for any actor who dares to play the iconic role. The actor’s performance was lauded for its complexity and ferocity, giving the character a new lease on life and establishing him as one of the most popular superheroes in film history.

Who Could Be James Gunn’s DCU Batman?

Depending on the actor chosen for the role, Batman’s future in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU could go in a few different directions. Assuming that there will not be a reboot and that Ben Affleck is still open to playing Batman, the first course of action is to simply keep the character alive.

The second possibility would have involved removing Ben Affleck’s Batman from the franchise and bringing Michael Keaton into the main DCU timeline, much like what happened with Batgirl. Having said that, neither of those fixes functions during a reboot. Thus, a new Batman would be required for Gunn’s DCU.

Robert Pattinson might even be a contender because of his role in The Batman. This would expand the universe of an already successful franchise, but it would definitely require changes to the Batman franchise. Alternatively, Batman could be portrayed in Gunn’s DCU by an entirely different actor.

Well, the stakes are high for DC, as the success of their upcoming Batman reboot could be critical to the rebirth of their cinematic universe. With Marvel dominating the superhero genre in recent years, DC hopes to reclaim its position at the top with a new and improved Batman at the helm.

As the search for the perfect Bruce Wayne continues, one thing remains certain: fans expect excellence, and DC’s revival may be dependent on finding an actor who can do justice to the legendary character of Batman. Will the next Dark Knight rise to the challenge and live up to the legacy left by Christian Bale? We will find that out in due course!
