After taking the helm of Marvel’s Thor film series with the 2017 action adventure Thor: Ragnarok, Taika Waititi wants to see the God of Thunder going against someone stronger in Thor 5. While earlier reports have claimed that the filmmaker did not want to direct another Thor film after the critical reception of Love and Thunder, it seems like he still has some ideas regarding what he would do if he is given the opportunity.

Taika Waititi Discusses Plans For a Potential Thor 5

After the 2022 film Thor: Love and Thunder, starring Chris Hemsworth, Marvel Studios has not revealed any plans for a future installment in the series. However, despite no further updates about Thor 5, fans have been discussing the superhero’s future in the MCU.

The director of the last two Thor films, Taika Waititi, also discussed the same in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder The Official Movie Special book, claiming that his next adventure should follow a story that is “carrying on with the evolution of the character.” He further stated that he would prefer to star a villain stronger than Hela, who destroyed Mjölnir and seized Asgard in the 2017 film.

“I feel like we need to step up from there and add a villain that’s somehow more formidable,” he said. While it is not confirmed if fans will get a fifth Thor installment, the God of Thunder has plenty of enemies who could potentially align with the type of antagonist Taika Waititi is seeking.

5 Villains Who Could Star Against Marvel Superhero in Thor 5

Chris Hemsworth’s Thor has stood against several villains throughout his venture in the MCU. However, the list of his enemies still consists of many names who are known to possess nearly the same level of strength as the God of Thunder, some of which could even challenge him in Thor 5.

Mangog

Mangog is considered to be one of the deadliest and most powerful villains Thor has faced in comics and could also face in Thor 5. The physical embodiment of billions of beings that were once killed by Thor’s father and the king of Asgard, Odin.

He channels his strengths from the hatred fueled by billions of souls, has limitless power, and his durability allows him to withstand some of the most powerful attacks of the Norse god. During the events of The Mighty Thor series, Mangog defeated the Asgard warriors, including Odin, the Serpent, Heimdall and Thor Odinson. While Jane Foster was able to defeat him, he is known to return from all sorts of defeats.

Perrikus and the Dark Gods

Described as the evil opposites of the Asgardians, Perrikus and the Dark Gods are known to be as powerful as Thor and could be a great challenge for the superhero in Thor 5. After facing defeat at the hands of Odin and Thor, they came back for revenge and took over Asgard with a sneak attack and enslaved Odin and his people.

While Hela is known to destroy Thor’s Mjolnir in the MCU, in comics, Perrikus slices it into pieces with a single stroke of his blade after defeating Thor and leaving him in his human form. After escaping from his captivity, Thor had to join hands with Destroyer armor and Hercules and had to use some of his most devastating attacks to defeat the Dark Gods and free the Asgardians and Odin.

Odin

While Thor: Ragnarok is believed to feature the death of the King of Asgard, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that the fans have not seen the last of him. While they have shared a strong relationship in the MCU, the conflicts between the two have been visible among them since the very first Thor film.

However, the God of Thunder is certainly not considered a match for his father, who is known to destroy galaxies in one swoop. In comics, Odin returns from the dead after Asgard faces the threat of World eaters. While he is among some of the strongest Gods in the world, Odin is not known to threaten his son’s life but only to teach him a few lessons.

The Midgard Serpent

The Midgard Serpent stands as one of the most formidable and terrifying creatures Thor has ever come across to protect Asgard. According to Norse legend, The Midgard Serpent, also known as the World Serpent or Jormungand, was the son of Loki and sorceress Angerboda. Known for having immense and virtually boundless power, he can cause havoc with his sheer movements.

The Midgard Serpent

The Midgard Serpent is also known to be incredibly intelligent and mortal and can cast illusions as well. His fangs possess deadly poison that could kill Asgardins along with other gods too. Considering his lethal capabilities, Odin chose to exile the creature to the bottom of the ocean, which resulted in his hatred for Asgard. It was also prophesied that during the events of Ragnarok, Thor, and the Midgard Serpent were destined to kill each other.

The Serpent

Thor is known to have several enemies in his family, as most of his family members have attempted to kill the God of Thunder. Introduced with Fear Itself #1, Odin’s brother Cul Borson, also known as The Serpent, is also among some of the characters who are known to trouble the God of Thunder.

The God of Fear kicked off the events of Fear Itself as he made several enchanted hammers, the same as Thor’s Mjolnir, and released them into the world. He is as powerful as Odin and holds the ability to reanimate the dead and turn into a giant snake. He is believed to be so powerful that it took Thor’s wielding hammer and Odinsword to defeat him.

The potential Thor 5 is expected to feature new narratives, unforgettable battles, and thrilling conflicts. The MCU is yet to explore some of the most iconic foes of the God of Thunder, and with the possibility of Thor’s evolution in future movies, the anticipation for Thor 5 is also expected to take a hike among fans.
