British actor Hugh Grant is a huge soccer fan and when it comes to the England soccer team, he defends it like his life depends on it. It is known that the actor watches England’s games in the FIFA World Cup every four years with all of his old friends and the group also has this one strange tradition that has been going on since 1982. This tradition is always bad for that one friend who is hated by everyone.
Hugh Grant is a well-known name in the industry thanks to his charismatic and often charming roles in romantic comedies and dramas. Despite his personal controversies, the actor has always showcased his versatility as an actor.
Hugh Grant watches every FIFA World Cup with his old friends
During his appearance in Late Night with Seth Meyers in 2018, actor Hugh Grant talked about watching the FIFA World Cup at his house with his old friends,
“I will watch it, touchingly, with the same eight friends I’ve been watching the World Cup with since 1982. They come to my house and we watch it on the TV – nothing changes. We’re now in our mid to late 50s and some of my friends are now judges and heads of banks and things like that. We still – if England score – we still have what we call a bundle. It just means you all jump on top of each other but we have to do it quite slowly now because we’ve all got bad backs.”
When Seth Meyers asked him if there was someone who couldn’t be at the bottom because of medical reasons, Grant explained that the most hated person is always at the bottom,
“There’s always one who is at the bottom because we sort of hate him.”
Apart from this, Grant is also passionate about American Football, Tennis, and Snooker. As a kid, he played a lot of American Football as well as soccer.
Hugh Grant got stabbed when he worked at Fulham Football Club
During the interview, Meyers also asked Grant if he worked at the Fulham Football Club, which is a professional soccer club based in Fulham, Greater London, England. The job was dangerous as Grant recalled his co-worker stabbed him,
“I used to wash the seats there. Disgusting job, really and dangerous too, because for some reason, my workmate was a psychopath and I said to our boss, ‘I don’t think this guy’s very well, you know, mentally’ and he said, ‘Nonsense, nonsense. He’s fine,’ and after three weeks, he stabbed me.”
Throughout his four-decade-long career, Grant has given many remarkable performances. Despite the controversial setbacks in the late 1990s and 2000s, he made an outstanding comeback, earning praise from fans all over the world.
