Akira Toriyama’s magnum opus, Dragon Ball, has been entertaining fans for over 40 years. Over time, the series developed into a narrative that has been distributed into different sequels and spin-offs like Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super, and the latest addition to the franchise, the upcoming Dragon Ball Daima.
However, the death of Toriyama has left a big question for Dragon Ball fans. The question is whether or not the series will continue after the death of its creator. Dragon Ball Super was midway into its story when Toriyama passed away and the manga since then has been on an indefinite hiatus.
But this is not the only problem for Dragon Ball fans. The Dragon Ball series has been going on for so long, and along the way, it has introduced a number of great storylines and characters, but it has also left a few plot holes that may never be answered.
1. Goku and Vegeta’s Beard
During the Cell arc, when Vegeta goes into training with Future Trunks in the hyperbolic time chamber, he makes a big revelation about how pure-blooded Saiyans cannot grow a beard and their hair always remains the same. This was accepted as the general quality of a Saiyan’s physical appearance by Dragon Ball fans.
However, fans were shocked to see Goku and Vegeta grow a beard in Dragon Ball Super when they train extensively in the Room of Spirit and Time. Although this does not have any relevance to the story, fans still wonder what could have caused Vegeta and Goku to grow a beard in Dragon Ball Super.
2. The Saiyan Tails have Vanished Completely
A Saiyan’s tail is one of the most important elements that not only serves their physical appearance but also allows them to transform into the Great Ape. These tails were introduced at the beginning of Dragon Ball and were a major plot point that made the story even more interesting.
However, as the story developed over time, these Saiyan tails lost their importance and were completely removed from the story without any explanation whatsoever. After Gohan, all the Saiyans that came in Dragon Ball from Universe 7 were shown without tails, be it Goten, Trunks, or Pan.
3. Can Saiyans Breathe in Space?
At the beginning of the Dragon Ball series, it was made extensively clear that while the Saiyans are a more biologically advanced race, they cannot breathe in space, just like the people of Earth. When Goku was fighting Frieza, King Kai pointed out to Goku that he wouldn’t be able to survive after the destruction of Namek, as he would not be able to breathe in space.
However, in Dragon Ball Z: Bardock, The Father of Goku, Bardock is seen flying into space and trying to fight Frieza. Also, Vegeta’s first-ever Super Saiyan transformation took place in space in episode 129, when he was training in outer space. This was another plothole that fans will never get to find out about.
4. The Mystery of the Dinosaurs
Dinosaurs made a common appearance in Dragon Ball. Both Goku and Gohan have been seen fighting dinosaurs for training in their respective timelines. While they were not a big narrative structure for the story, they still held some importance and were even introduced as a comedic element.
But fans got confused when, in Dragon Ball Super, Beerus stated that he was the one who killed all the dinosaurs because they were rude to him. What confused fans even more was that the dinosaurs made an appearance in Dragon Ball Super.
5. Gogeta vs. Vegito
While Gogeta is the result of the result of the fusion between Goku and Vegeta using the fusion dance, Vegito is the result of the fusion of Potara earrings. Vegito made his first appearance in Dragon Ball Z when the fighters were engaged in a battle against Majin Buu. Gogeta, on the other hand, made some initial appearances in the non-canonical counterparts, but he was made official with his introduction in Dragon Ball Super: Broly.
While both of these fusions are extremely powerful and have been used to defeat some major villains, fans have often wondered which is the stronger transformation. Sadly, it may never be revealed in the series.
