With the official conclusion of the Star Trek: Discovery series, discussions about a movie adaptation that have been delayed for quite some time are resurfacing. Audience opinions are mixed on whether they actually want a movie.
Recent remarks by the show’s star, Sonequa Martin-Green, subtly suggest that the possibility of the movie becoming a reality is gaining traction in the studio.
Sonequa Martin-Green on the Possibility of a Star Trek: Discovery Spin-Off Movie
Star Trek 4 remains distant from its release, yet there’s reassuring news that development is ongoing for the highly anticipated movie. In March 2024, reports surfaced that Steve Yockey, known for his work on The Flight Attendant, has taken up the challenge of crafting a new script for the film. This installment aims to reunite stars like Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Zoe Saldaña.
Separately, there are two other Star Trek projects in the pipeline, a prequel helmed by Toby Haynes and Section 31, a spin-off from Star Trek: Discovery, which wrapped up filming in March 2024 reportedly.
In a recent interview with TrekMovie Sonequa Martin-Green revealed,
We talk about movie opportunities a lot. We talk about possible crossover opportunities. It’s tough because where we ended up was further beyond where any Trek is gone. I think we ended in 3191. So there’s very little we can do in terms of just not breaking too many rules because when we jumped to the future, that was our last shot. But I think that there are some crossover opportunities coming up with maybe Starfleet Academy. It would be a lot of fun to do a movie. I haven’t heard anything about it, but it could be a lot of fun.
Despite the interview taking place in April, the disclosed information alongside the actors’ comments suggests a movie is on the horizon.

Now that Star Trek: Discovery has wrapped up, fans are curious whether Captain Michael Burnham and the USS Discovery will return for a sixth season, or possibly a streaming movie on Paramount+.
A streaming movie on Paramount+ presents a promising avenue for continuing the Star Trek: Discovery storyline. Paramount+ has revealed a strategy to release a new Star Trek movie every two years, beginning with Star Trek: Section 31, featuring Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh.
Although no release date as of yet has been announced. The potential reunion of the Star Trek: Discovery cast for a Paramount+ movie is being actively considered. Derived from Star Trek: Discovery, the movie centers around Philippa Georgiou, an operative of Section 31, an undercover branch of Starfleet entrusted with safeguarding the United Federation of Planets. The future trajectory of Star Trek streaming movies will hinge significantly on the reception and success of Section 31 on Paramount+.
