Last year, DC reintroduced Batman to the big screen, with Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne leading a fresh detective-driven portrayal of the character. The Batman was a huge success for the studio and instantly sparked speculation about the future.
Reeves has long hinted about a trilogy, but his ideas have extended to include some HBO shows as well. Less than two months after the original film’s debut, Warner Bros. formally revealed plans to create The Batman 2 with Reeves and Pattinson.
Matt Reeves’ Batman Trilogy Confirmed
The Batman – Part II received a formal announcement and release date from Warner Bros, soon after the first movie skyrocketedtosuccess. Gunn indicated that Reeves is planning a trilogy of films and an HBO series which he defined as part of an overall “crime story” for The Batman, that is completely detached from the regular DCU.
It is also speculated that The Batman 2 might begin filming this year. Since then, Warner Bros. has confirmed that The Batman – Part II would be released exclusively in cinemas on October 3, 2025.
Matt Reeves’ concepts for The Batman trilogy show how he and James Gunn are collaborating to shape Batman’s cinematic future. While the emphasis is on creating a cohesive shared universe that prevents several actors playing the same roles, Matt Reeves’ The Batman trilogy is an example of a DC Elseworlds film that will be removed from the DCU timeline.
These initiatives will take place outside of the normal DCU continuity and will be permitted to exist independently. Because The Batman was designed to exist outside of a shared universe, the choice was made to maintain it and the DCU separately, instead of potentially retconning the franchise and altering its future.
Fans want all versions of Batman to co-exist
Twitter fans react to Gunn’s decision and the possibility of more than one Batman, and they are elated with James Gunn’s decision for a change. Different portrayals of Batman by directors and actors bring out varied shades of the hero, and the audience wants more. They are more than willing to accept and celebrate the Dark Detective by Reeves, the heroic Bruce Wayne in The Dark Knight Trilogy, and the upcoming Batman in the DCU.
Something to remember about DC Comics is that it is an Omni-Verse now. That means that there are an INFINATE number of DC Universes out there and not just the 1. There is a DC Earth Prime which the DCU will reside in but that leaves a ton more to see

Exactly the dcu batman is getting a Damian Wayne right away meaning he already has an established bat family, one of which we haven’t seen in live action. I love reeves interpretation but in the comics there’s so many different versions of batman we should see another side to him

All movies concerning Batman appealed to audiences in diversified ways. Fans fight for all versions of Batman to exist as they all have different things to offer. With Gunn and Safran heading the revamp of the franchise, things are looking good. After the DC Slate announcement, fans who were demanding to fire Gunn have accepted him as the co-CEO of DCU, probably because the projects planned by the duo are surprisingly brilliant.
