Netflix just got a touch more supernatural with the arrival of “Dead Boy Detectives” where the veil between the worlds thins. This chilling new series isn’t a typical detective show. Based on the DC characters by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner, the series involves restless spirits, vengeful demons, and the occasional existential crisis – all tackled by a most unusual duo: a pair of teenage ghosts.
Jayden Revri and George Rexstrew step up to the challenge of bringing the two ghosts to life. Their dedication to the source material is so good that it might impress the likes of even Henry Cavill himself.
Jayden Revri and George Rexstraw Read A Lot of Sandman Comics To Prepare For Dead Boy Detectives
In order to fully embody their characters and create a connection to the Sandman universe, both Jayden Revri and George Rexstraw went above and beyond by immersing themselves in the source material. In an interview with Screenrant, they said that they read every single comic book that the Dead Boy Detectives had ever been in.
We were fortunate enough to get sent every single comic that the Dead Boy Detectives had appeared in, so I know me and George both read through those, and obviously, we got sent the script. So we were really spoiled for choice. We kind of took a little bit of the comics, but also wanted to stay true to the script that we had and yeah, we were just spoiled for choice, really. – Jayden Revri
It was very similar to what Jayden said, to be honest. I dove straight into the comics and gleaned as much from those as I could and then I mined the script as we did, and I researched into the period, the Victorian and Edwardian periods. – George Rexstraw
One can’t help but remember Henry Cavill after hearing the dedication of the two actors. The actor is known for his dedication to his craft. For instance, Henry Cavill’s embodiment of Geralt of Rivia goes beyond acting. A self-proclaimed Witcher fanatic, Cavill had devoured the novels before the show even had a script.
It’s refreshing to see actors like Cavill bring such passion and in-depth knowledge to their roles, ensuring the characters they portray resonate deeply with fans. The dedication Rexstraw and Revri had for their roles will definitely earn praise from Cavill if he were to hear it.
What Is Netflix’s Dead Boy Detectives About?
Dead Boy Detectives dives into the wacky world of the Sandman universe. It centers around Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine, two teenage ghosts who decide to ditch the afterlife and become paranormal detectives. Instead of shuffling off to whatever lies beyond, they stick around on Earth to solve mysteries with a supernatural edge.
The first season of the show aired on April 25, 2024, and has a total of eight episodes with a running time in the range of more than 50 minutes each. Most interestingly, Kirby Howell-Baptiste from The Sandman makes her return to the role of Death.
