While some blamed Gunn others blamed Warner Bros. and DC executives for trying to take the Marvel route. And now recently one of the writers on Cavill’s Man of Steel has come forward to blame WB for the end of DCEU by speeding up the process instead of taking the organic route just like Marvel did. DC directly coming forward with Batman V Superman instead of another solo Cavill movie was the nail in the coffin that sealed the fate of DCEU.

When Henry Cavill starred as Superman back in 2013 to say DC fans were delighted would be an understatement. The actor’s down-to-earth personality and bulked-up physique were enough to convince fans that he was indeed the perfect actor to star as Earth’s mightiest savior. However, DC missed its opportunity to use Cavill’s Superman in a better way after they hired James Gunn for a total reboot of the comic book universe.

Recently David S Goyer, one of the key players of DCEU spoke up about how DCEU’s end came about and blamed it on Warner Bros rushing the storyline instead of building it from the ground up like Marvel did (via Happy Sad Confused Podcast).

He blamed the movie Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice as the biggest blunder by WB. According to Goyer WB and DC executives were trying hard to create a Marvel-like Universe and so instead of taking little steps in the right direction, the jump to a major movie with a complex storyline rather than focusing on an individual Cavill movie was what led to the end of DCEU and Cavill’s run as Superman.

While talking to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, David S Goyer also revealed that the writers and directors were under extreme pressure from Warner Bros. The reason was that WB was not ready to wait for the storyline to take a more formative shape and instead, they wanted to speed up the process as soon as possible.

“The pressure we were getting from Warner Bros., which was, ‘We need our MCU! We need our MCU!’ And I was like let’s not run before we walk… The other thing that was difficult at the time was there was this revolving door of executives at Warner Bros. and DC. Every 18 months someone new would come in. We were just getting whiplash. Every new person was like, ‘We’re going to go bigger!’”

While there is no way to bring Cavill back, it is a fact that DC and Warner Bros certainly missed their opportunity to create something that had the potential to make it big.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice can be streamed on HBO Max.
