Alan Ritchson’s Reacher was a surprise hit, instantly captivating audiences with the muscular, no-nonsense drifter’s world. Fans also loved Finlay and Roscoe from Season One, who helped Jack Reacher take down a major crime syndicate. To fans’ dismay, both the actors, Malcolm Goodwin and Willa Fitzgerald, will not be returning for Season Two.
It was expected, considering the anthology nature of the Jack Reacher book series upon which the series is based. However, Ritchson is willing to break the anthology rule and bring back these characters in future seasons, aiming to make Reacher’s journey more relatable.
Alan Ritchson Willing To Break The Cardinal Rule Of ‘Anthological’ Reacher
In a recent interview with SlashFilm about the upcoming season of Reacher, Alan Ritchson expressed interest in bringing back his former allies in future seasons. Willa Fitzgerald, who played the formidable female cop Roscoe Conklin, and Malcolm Goodwin, who played the uptight detective Oscar Finlay, were both confirmed not to return for Season Two.
Reacher is based on the Jack Reacher book series by Lee Child, where each book serves as a standalone adventure. Reacher Season 1 was based on the first book, Killing Floor, and the second season will be based on the book, Bad Luck and Trouble. Although the book’s anthology nature demands a new cast for each season, both the audience and Ritchson would love to see the old team back in action.
Ritchson believes that bringing back Roscoe and Finlay will contribute to the world-building in Reacher. Despite the anthological nature, Ritchson wants the audience to relate more with the character’s journey, emphasizing that it’s only possible by reminding audiences of Reacher’s relationships with people. The Fast X actor shared with SlashFilm:
“I think we should. I think we should at some point. [Roscoe and Finlay] were just too good. We’re building a world here, and although this is an anthology, to be able to remind the audience that this is a real journey that he’s taken and there are some people that are still there, I think could be a lot of fun. Yeah, I hope we can do that at some point.”
The Amazon Prime Video series has already established connections between seasons (beyond Reacher himself). Season One featured Reacher’s colleague Neagley, played by Maria Sten, despite Neagley appearing only in the second book. She is set to return for Season Two.
Alan Ritchson’s Reacher Season 2 Will Explore His Military Life
Apart from Neagley, Reacher’s military life wasn’t much explored in the first season. Jack Reacher served as a major in the U.S. Army’s military police. If avenging his blood family was the focus in the first season, Season Two will explore him protecting his military family. According to Prime Video, Reacher reunited with three of his former teammates, including Neagley.
Playing crucial roles in the second season are Serinda Swan and Shaun Sipos, who play Karla Dixon and David O’Donnell, Reacher’s other teammates. Alan Ritchson’s character sets out to find who betrayed the Special Investigators team and will stop at nothing to uncover the truth. A trailer for Season Two was recently released, generating much hype among audiences.
Reacher Season 2 premieres on December 14, while the first season is available for streaming on Prime Video.
