It goes without saying that Elder Scrolls 6 is one of the most anticipated and at the same time, delayed launching of a game in videogame history. Nonetheless, it seems that anxious players might get a placeholder with a remake of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion if reports are to be believed. It may not be Elder Scrolls 6, but along with Starfield, it’ll certainly fill that gap pretty well!

Former Virtuos Games employees continue to leak information about the studio’s future projects. The development of the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake in Singapore had already been leaked by one of them’s LinkedIn page. Years passed, allowing the rumor to be forgotten for a while, but Konami eventually confirmed the game’s production at the beginning of the year.

Now, another former employee also shared information that the studio may be working on what appears to be a remaster or remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Even though it was a rumor, a mod from the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit confirmed that the post is indeed from a former Virtuos Games employee.

While the fifth title in the franchise, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, is the best-selling and most acclaimed game of the five released so far, Oblivion still warms the hearts and souls of gamers passionate about the medieval fantasy setting. But it’s also not one of the best examples of longevity in video game terms, its gameplay and graphics haven’t aged very well like Skyrim and Virtuos Games seems to know that very well.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was released in 2006 for Windows and Xbox 360, as a sequel to 2002’s The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. The story depicted the player character’s efforts to stop a fanatical cult known as the Mythic Dawn, who open the gates of a demonic realm known as Oblivion to the province of Cyrodiil. The game continued the open-world mechanics of the series, allowing the hero to travel anywhere on the map available in the game at any desired time, being able to focus or ignore the main plot or side-universe issues.

Aside from Skyrim re-releases, remakes or remasters are not common for Bethesda, which is now focused on Starfield’s September release. The Elder Scrolls VI, also in development, is expected for 2026, but fans who are already used to Bethesda are not very optimistic to be relying on this date, with previous Bethesda releases all ending up being delayed throughout development for one reason or another.

In the same leak, the former employee also talks about other games in development like “internal project that has the ambition to become a big AAA project”, the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, revealed as Metal Gear Solid 3 Delta: Snake Eater , an expansion to Amazon’s Open World MMO and a “narrative climbing” game.

Based on that source, the next two projects are expected to be Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remakes. We can expect confirmation of the rumor at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase next year.
