During these times of major multi-billion dollar franchises taking over cinema, there was a time when the rule of Pirates of the Caribbean was at its peak, and everyone who had witnessed these films could not help but talk about them nonstop. The story, which was the highlight of the franchise, was also enhanced by the presence of Captain Jack Sparrow, who was brought to life by Johnny Depp’s exceptional performance.
But after the controversy surrounding the actor regarding domestic abuse allegations by his now ex-wife Amber Heard, Depp was dropped from the series as the main character. Thus, there have been no further updates from Disney about the future of the series. But taking a step back, we can hear the story from the sets of the film, when Depp stood up for his stunt double during the shoot of the first film of the franchise.
When Johnny Depp Was Concerned For His Stunt Double In Pirates Of The Caribbean
With the first film in the popular and extremely successful Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, the audience was mesmerized by the strong and charming performance of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. But what many from the audience failed to realize is that apart from the star, there are several other entities that work hard to make sure the project turns out as perfect as possible, which often involves fatal experiences for the entire team. One such experience almost took Depp’s stunt double’s eye.

Tony Angelotti, the stunt choreographer who was the stunt double for Depp during the shoot of three films in the franchise, recalled an incident that he couldn’t forget. During the shooting of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, he was shooting a scene with Orlando Bloom, where they were locked in a swordfight when Bloom took a wrong swing that nicked Angelotti’s eyebrow. As soon as Depp noticed it, he yelled for everything to stop until the stuntman was taken to medical care. In an interview with Metro, he said:
“I do remember one time when I saw him extremely angry, And it was when we were filming the blacksmith forge fight, and I was fighting Orlando Bloom, and Johnny’s sitting over by the camera watching, and Orlando – the fights, they’ll get really intense and fast. And Orlando I think got lost at one point, and went in another direction, And I ducked back and the tip of his blade caught right near my eyebrow. I was okay, it was literally like a nick. A hair closer would have left a decent mark. Johnny got up out of his chair, walked over to this guy, and said, ‘We’re not doing a f****** thing until he gets looked at by the medic, You could have heard a pin drop on that set.”
Will We See The Revival Of The Pirates Of The Caribbean Franchise?
After winning the defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife, the star was speculated to return to every project that he was dropped from, but it seems like this is not the case. Reports say that even for a hefty paycheck, the star is not willing to return as one of his most iconic characters in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, which has forced Jerry Bruckheimer to look elsewhere. This has led to speculations and rumors to suspect that Dwayne Johnson might take the offer to play Captain Jack Sparrow in a likely reboot of the franchise in the future.
