The 90s TV show FRIENDS, starring Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, and others, had been a globally popular show back in the day. But surprisingly, the sitcom still remained relevant for modern audiences, even after decades.
The popularity of FRIENDS goes beyond everything. So much so, that diehard fans have even memorized the episodes of the sitcom by heart. But unfortunately, Courteney Cox doesn’t seem to remember it, all too well. Speaking about how she almost forgot scenes from the show, Cox reflected upon the impact of FRIENDS on audiences.
Courteney Cox Barely Remembers Working on FRIENDS
NBC sitcom FRIENDS still happens to be one of the most watched TV shows of all time. Created in the 90s, the sitcom about six friends successfully managed to remain relatable even after decades. But unfortunately, the actress who worked in the show seems to barely remember anything about it.
Well, the American actress Courteney Cox, who played Monica Geller apparently seems to have forgotten almost all of it. Appearing in an interview with Today, the actress revealed that she barely remembers working on the set of FRIENDS. Cox even revealed how she went unprepared on the reunion special and failed to answer questions about the show and her role.
“I should’ve watched all ten seasons because when I did the reunion and was asked questions, I was like, ‘I don’t remember being there,’. Yeah. I don’t remember filming so many episodes.”
Blaming her “bad memory” Courteney Cox mentioned how she can barely recollect the scenes and performing them, even while watching the show on TV. “I see it on TV sometimes and I stop and go, ‘Oh my God, I don’t remember this at all,’” Cox shared. She mentioned finding it funny since that’s the way her brain functions, which is also why she doesn’t remember much about her childhood traumas.
Courteney Cox Was Surprised by The Impact of FRIENDS
During her interview with Today, Courteney Cox revealed how she didn’t have any idea that FRIENDS would turn into this highly appreciated and globally popular show. The actress admitted during the interview how her life changed overnight after the sitcom aired in 1994, and created a severe impact on popular culture.
While the actress barely remembers working on the show, Cox has a clear memory of a trip with the cast before the show took off. Courteney Cox recalled how she and her colleagues were given $500 each, and were told to enjoy the moment as normal people because once the show aired, they wouldn’t be able to do it.
“He gave us all $500. And he said, ‘I want you to take care, like, really take notice of this moment because it will be the last time that all six of you together can walk through a casino,’. And we were like, “Really?” And it was true. We never could never do that (again).”
“I mean, I don’t wanna sound like, ‘Look at us.’ We’re not, you know, the Beatles. But people feel like they know you. If we were all to walk down the street, six of us, it would be, I think it would be really interesting to people.”
Certainly, all six actors from the show along with the other actors who had cameos and brief roles ended up turning into phenomenal stars. Somehow the show appears to be a lucky charm for the cast and crew.
